I'm considering upping my internet speed from 5 mpbs (or what the measurement unit is) to 10. It's about 10 bucks a month more. Is it worth it? Will I even notice (I'm not a gamer but I do stream movies, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time).

It is like the difference from buying shake, or bud.

Get the bud.

For being a young Mexican music producer, you're sure missing out on what the old white guy is referring to when he says "shake". :)

So you're saying if I go with the faster internet then I'll be able to more quickly google your drug references to know what the heck you are talking about?

Its worth 10 bucks. Faster internet is never a bad thing. I'd say anything up to 30mbps is worth it. After that you are paying a premium and relying on other peoples servers. I have 50mbs service now and its hard to pull a download above 40mbps at any time. I had 30 before and will probably go back to that just to save 10 bucks pretty soon. At thirty, movies never buffer unless hulu or netfix boinks. If I am in full nerd mode I could be running 4 devices at once, so you can get an idea. If I wasn't out of market and could watch the hawks on t.v. every Sunday, I could probably get by on 10 mbs, but I don't have dish so I need all the help I can get.

Get a 19.6k dialup modem. Pretty much free. You don't need to google drug references, so it should be good enough.

It's largely the devices I was thinking of. Whether or not my computer would process the faster speed or if the bottleneck is at my computer. I don't have an old computer by any means, but it is approaching its 2nd birthday. The bummer of the service is that the upload speed remains 1 meg. I don't know how big a deal that is. The only thing it would really matter for is that I teach a class online and do a weekly seminar. Haven't had much in the way of problems.

Just for clarity, y'all are saying "mpbs" but is actually "Mbps", or Mega bits per second (not Mega Bites...), but we new what you were saying...

I've got the new Comcast 100-Mbps cable modem and am getting the 16-Mbps business-class service for about $115.00 a month. It comes with 1 phone line and basic TV cable service, each with its own modem/box. With only 4 other businesses on the line between me and the their closest node, I regularly see 75+ Mbps speeds with my 16-Mbps service. Let me tell you, getting more than you pay for is always nice.

In fact, my signal is so strong, the installer had to coil up about 130 extra feet of cable in the rafters to bring down the decibel level of the signal. Dude told me if we didn't throttle it back it would cause the modem to heat up and shut-down periodically. Who knew? Comcast doesn't mess around with business class either, they bring in that #11 size cable in from the pedestals nowadays, and use all the trick new connectors. Been 9 months and no outages either.

Houston, while you were correcting them on the difference between bits and bytes in measuring bandwidth, you misspelled "bytes". : /

If I were an Indian, it'd bring a tear to my eye. (The bad kind of tear.)

Roland, I could never reach the spelling-Nazi levels you attain on a daily basis. Simply breathtaking.

Oh, and it's kinda funny, but the guy in this picture is actually Iron Eyes Cody, a famous Indian impersonator born in Louisiana, but he's not native American. He's of Italian-American decent.

I, on the other hand, AM of Cherokee Indian decent, and I cry every time you correct my spelling. For the record, I hate people that litter too.

I also just got the 100 Mbps cable modem with router. I have to admit its lots better than the old one that could barely handle 25. I get about 50 with this set up but it doesn't seem to make much difference with incoming, I was disappointed.

Going to call and have "Burst" taken off and see if there is any difference. I'm guessing its my old computer. Its an Emachine that was a big deal when it was new with an extra stick of ram and I added a second cd player since I had a brand new one in the old machine. What a waste, I barely use one for more than weekly/monthly backups. No sense in using for movies as I have the LID TV, at least I think that's how its spelled. on a file cabinet about 3 1/2' from this chair. The picture is almost beyond belief.

We have a 50" plazma downstairs in the wife's TV/family room, a 32" LED in the bedroom that was destined for the trailer but missed fitting by 5/8s of an inch so I got it and we got this27" in here when we aren't out with the trailer.

The computer is so old it was about the second or third sold at Best Buy with a gig of ram. Which now a days is nothing.

You know what's funny? The Sopranos taught me that.

Since I do, indeed, feast on the tears of grammar imperfection, I'll also point out that you should have spelled it "descent", not "decent". :)

Roland and Houston - it is also important to remember that when you are referring to a person (or people) it is "who" not that." So you hate people who litter, not people that litter.

I'd like to think that in some small way I contributed to the grammar police training here.

What if I'm a sociopath that refers to everyone as an object?

Just kidding. Good catch. I'm proud. Though, it's only Houston who used "that" incorrectly between us.

I just love Seahawks.Net.

I can talk Seahawks, and just about anything else, and get my grammar and spelling corrected too!

So much bang for the buck.

While I'm at it, I should point out that the people who litter are not really hated, they just really disappoint me. Hate is such a strong word.

Maybe there's a clog in your cable. Try some porn before you upgrade computers. That usually works to flush out the pipes.

Roland reminds me of a roommate that I once had. She could not stand to have any photos or art on the walls, that were not perfectly level. My favorite past-time was ever so slightly tilting every piece that hung on the walls in our apartment while she was gone.
