88 was ok. Started my first rap group that year. Ninja Turtles were huge. Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff changed my life. Also the first year I followed the Seahawks all the way through. So yeah, good year.

  • There was no music the year I was born.

There were no movies the year BigPumpkin was born.

    :D

Actually the #1 song of my birth year was WHITE CHRISTMAS, which is neat since Der Bingle(Bing Crosby to you) was born and raised in Spokane, in a house that is now on the campus of Gonzaga University. They have preserved that house.

The #1 book of that year was The Robe a book I'm sure most of you have never heard of. Was later made into a great movie.

  • Don Larsen pitched the only perfect game in World Series history the year I was born, 1956.
The Yankees beat the Dodgers, who were still in Brooklyn, in the World Series.
Jackie Robinson was still in his prime.
Sandy Koufax was a 2nd year, young, wild non-descript pitcher for the Dodgers.

The American Football League was still 4 years from it's first season.
The New York Ginats won the NFL championship. Their offensive coordinator was a guy named Vince Lombardi. Their defensive coordinator was a guy named Tom Landry.

The one, the only, the incredible Elvis Presley was dominating the charts with Don't Be Cruel, Hound Dog (#1 the week I was born was the two sided Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel!), Love Me Tender & Heartbreak Hotel. He had a good year didn't he?

  • Well, in the year I was born...

    - US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated.
    - "Cleopatra", starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton was the most popular movie.
    - The computer mouse was invented.
    - Auto manufacturer Lamborghini was introduced.
    - Sidney Poitier became the first black actor to win an Oscar for "Lilies of the Field".
    - Soap Opera "General Hospital" debuted.
    - The Beatles released "I want to hold your hand".

    That was 1963.

    . . . . .
The academy award for the best movie went to An American in Paris. The top actor was Humphrey Bogart for his role as Charlie Allnut in The African Queen. The top actress was Vivien Leigh for her role as Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire.
The Tennessee Waltz by Patti Page topped the US charts.
The show playing on TV is The Roy Rogers Show.
I Love Lucy made its television debut on CBS.

  • Lady and the Tramp was the top movie.

Other than that, 1955 seems like a snooze fest. Or I got tired of watching the boring stuff roll by on the website.

Ernest Borgnine was a favorite, but I never watched the movie "Marty" that won him an oscar.

Does it really say "release"? If so, that annoys me. The amount of "radiation" released from the Three Mile Island incident was so miniscule, it's beyond irrelevant. (Less than half of what you get from a single chest x-ray for the people living in that area.)

  • Can't be bothered to sit while that stupid site spits out one letter at a time, so I'll just go on record that The French Connection seems to have been a pretty significant movie in my birth year and leave it at that.

EDIT: And then I discover when you get irritated with the page and try to close it, it sends you a message saying, "Okay, fine, we'll load it all at once."

Turns out that I was so awesome, that Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison all had to die so I could be born.
