Have any of you in the Seattle-area heard about this new venture between the City of Seattle and this new ISP? I am so stoked to hear that affordable fiberoptic internet is expanding to Seattle.

Attached is the planned coverage areas; currently I'm about 0.25 miles from their coverage area but I'm hoping that expansion is in the works to reach the more residential area where I live.

Gigabit Squared Seattle’s simplified fiber network pricing plans for Seattle will be structured as follows:

Installation Charge: Installation charges will be waived for customers signing a one-year contract for 100 Mbps service or greater. Otherwise, a $350 installation fee is required.
    Service Plan Options:

    Plan A:

5 Mbps download/1 Mbps upload: No charge for 60 months
5/1 Mbps services are transferrable to new renters or owners
After 60 months renters or owners can convert to a 10 Mbps download/10 Mbps upload service plan for only $10 per month

    Plan B:

100 Mbps download/100 Mbps upload for $45 per month
No installation charge with one- year contract

    Plan C:

1000 download/1000 upload Mbps for $80 per month
No installation charge with one-year contract

  • I might have to move to a place where it's at, haha. I've been keeping an eye on it...Hopefully they'll expand to the eastside. I mean, I'm on 35/35 fiber right now, but gigabit smokes that.

  • I saw this being discussed in the thread over in the Shack and it made me long for more competition with ISPs in the area. I've very encouraged that someone is willing to compete against the non-competitive market that we have.

The pricing structure alone should be enough to instil a lot of fear into the non-competitive prices of CenturyLink and Comcast.

  • Yep, I want fiber ISPs to come in and absolutely smoke the likes of Comcast, Charter, CenturyLink, etc.

  • Oh sweet! They originally had not planned for Ballard to be on the early neighborhoods, but pretty excited to see it is now! Nothing would please me more than telling comcast to go #)(@#)@)( themselves.

  • Seattle needs to have it's own intranet of high speed [porn] websites.
I enjoy ruining threads by making them about personal attacks and then commenting about how personal attacks make the other person's argument invalid.
