A while back a couple people asked to see pictures of my raised beds and I finally was able to remember to get my dad's camera from him when I was over at his house. I'm not very experienced as a handyman, but I like to think I did a pretty decent job. :D

Great job on the beds. Having had some experience with them I would recommend you put a strap around all the corners because down the road they will try to seperate there at the greatest amount of pressure is.

My son in law is a contractor and one of the houses he built a couple of years ago included poured concrete ones about 36" tall so old duffers like me could use them without having to get up and down so much. lol

I'll have to agree with Radish; your design on the boxes needs help. Did you use nails or screws?

If those are nails holding the ends, they should be changed. Nailing with the grain with probably move withing the first year. IMHO, the ends should be within the outside rails, giving you more of a 'sheer' strength on your fasteners. Of course, dovetailing or a dado slot would be the cool way to go.

BTW: When I talk about nailing with the grain failing; I say so from experience! LOL

Good luck with your project! It looks great!

I have screws in them, and I pounded in stakes about every 3-4 feet and screwed the boards into those as well. I'll probably put a strap around the corners in a couple weeks and hope that'l keep them together (thanks radish). If these hold for 4-5 years I'll be happy. I can always redo them latter when I have some more money to spend on treated lumber and the like.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things.

I'll be right over with my dahlias.
