  • You know Roland there was a loophole discovered to worm out of exactly these predicaments.

You can accuse Abs of obsessing, attacking the poster, then complain and have Les shut this down. It worked for that member, when he too found himself knee-deep in his own contradictory logic.

"Abs, quit obsessing!"..."keep it up"...start there.

  • Not an underrated movie, I'd say, but a movie that not many people I know have seen for some reason: Full Metal Jacket

Perhaps because Stanley Kubrik films are not worth the time of watching them? I admit to pretty much skipping seeing this since I have been put to sleep by almost every other Kubrik film I have seen.

  • Dude, Full Metal Jacket is full of win. At least the first half is. The second half goes from funny to dark and depressing.

    Great flick.

  • Yeah, SacHawk is bang on the money there. It's not underrated though, Outfield. Kubrick's best film, I'd say. A Clockwork Orange and the Shining are also very good.

  • Outfield, you need to reconsider who your friends are if most of them have not seen FMJ. Fantastic film.

  • I'm with BASF on the Kubric front. His movies suck.

I agree with Sac on FMJ. The first half was good but the second half sucked. The bad hour doesn't make up for the good.

  • Alright, if you only like the first half of FMJ, then you don't really like the film. You like insult comedy, that's it.

the second part of the movie is the better part for me. A gritty look at the reality of the Vietnam war.

  • I wouldn't say the second part is better, personally. I think the big change in the nature of the film from the first half to the second half is a uniquely done piece of film history that combines to create a great overall film that is better than the sum of its two major parts. I wouldn't like the movie anywhere near as much if the whole thing was only in the style of the first half, or only in the style of the second half.

I haven't seen Eyes Wide Shut, but asides from that I love all of Kubrick's films. Dr Strangelove is easily my favourite though, and is definitely underrated.
