Anyone here caught it yet? I was thinking of going but, the reviews are spotty at best.

DiCaprio movies are always pretty damn good. I'll probably wait for Netflix on this one though.

I have not seen it, but I'm interested. My Twitter is all abuzz with all the literary agents commenting on it.

Just re-read the book to get ready. Had forgotten almost completely what it was about. Looking forward to it now. The previews make it look epic so we'll see.

It's Baz Luhrmann so I'm probably not going to bother seeing it, despite really liking the book.

Saw it on Saturday night, the movie was pretty disappointing. The guy who described it as heineken commercial almost nailed it.

I really like the book too. It's a bit of a slow burn at first, but it picks up the pace towards the last third or so of the book.

I really liked it. The Great Gatsby isn't my favorite F. Scott Fitzgerald book, so given the source material, in my opinion, it couldn't be a great movie. I thought they did a good job of translating the feel and the vibe of that time period and those characters into modern depictions and actions. An "awesome" party in the 20's wouldn't necessarily be considered an "awesome" party now, so they made the party scenes decadent, free flowing insanity. I think some of the criticism of it lacking depth is missing the mark. I felt like the movie "gets" the feel of the novel. That's all you can ask really.

I saw the 1974 movie but this recent one had more emotion and really the characters that weren't one dimensional like the 1974 one. As they showed more emotional and came really more to life. But that is just IMHO! As really makes me in a sense want to go back to the Roaring Twenties!

I just remember that was the only thing other than L&O I'd ever seen him in. Good catch.

I haven't seen Django yet but have found most parts played by DiCaprio he's the same cardboard character. Much better than Keenau Reeves but along the same lines to me. He needs special effects and a fast moving story to look decent. Which Gatsby doesn't have in my opinion.

I've read the Great Gatsby to my son a few months ago.
