  • I think the fact that is is moving makes it is really distracting. I suppose it is better than chopping up the whole forum though and having adds placed all willy nilly. Can adjust to the change, but I am a stubborn mule.

  • A bit distracting but if it keeps the lights on, I’ll learn to love it.

Also there is a “go fund me” link, and it works.

Is there a way to just have the rotation of ads pop up as we navigate around the site, like most ad based sites?

I'm tempted to stay out of this since I shared my thoughts privately, but I'm not a fan of the spinning either. When it's in my peripheral vision, it's a real problem. I could probably go with sliding the banners in and out.

  • It looks like it will need to be fixed, ads at end squished and unreadable and when it rotates the ads are mirrored which is also a distraction as well as unreadable.

Maybe a banner type with timer and ad change will look and work better since 50 percent of the time you can read it.

That's what I would look at if I was a paying sponsor.

Oh and hovering over the ad causes it to spin and the rotation to stop :)

Right, most ad based forums and sights just have the different banners pop up as you navigate around.

I'm certainly all for .Net making enough money to keep us knuckleheads from shirking as much work as possible and not having to interact with our families.........but the rotating banner is no bueno if there's another way to do it.

Other than that, kinda weird spacing/wasted space above and below it.

  • Also, just having one rotating ad in the same spot on every page in no way feels disruptive, distracting, or excessive to me. Just my opinion. Some sites really clutter it up and it looks awful and makes the layout more confusing.

  • I'm typically not a fan of ads, but these ads don't have 3rd party trackers so it doesn't bother me. The rotation can be distracting when browsing on my home computer. For whatever reason, I don't see the ads or the rotation on my work computer. Overall, if it keeps the site running I'm happy with whatever.

  • Also, the ad is placed in a location where I won't ever accidentally hit it with my thumb when I am browsing.

And I second the idea of having the rotation stay still for 3 seconds, and then rotate to the next ad.

The PWR had a hell of a lot more people posting in it than that. I'd rather have an incentive-based subscription model available. Like, $5/mo gets me no ads, PWR access, and a subscriber set of unique smiley faces to use on the forum. Pretty sure we could get at least 50 people paying that around here...probably well over 100, over time.

Aros wrote:Funny, Ad Blocker doesn't work on this site. Sigh. Haha

They're hosting the ads locally on the .NET server, so very few ad blockers will recognize it as an ad.

I'm glad you pointed that out. After reading that I discovered that putting the mouse pointer close to a corner or side and slightly moving it also makes the ad get spastic, which amuses me for a few seconds per site visit.

I got 5$ on it. I lurk in the hopes that the PWR comes back and maybe someone posts something insightful about my hawks in the main forum. The PWR was killed, and the main forum's been dying a slow death, losing some of our great posters of the past. If my 5$ can help get the PWR back and encourage a little intelligent discourse in the main forum, I would be happy to pay.

  • I don't mean to be too harsh, but this looks and feels very poorly thought out and executed. Feels like I'm looking at a website in 2009, not 2019. It's just a giant eye sore that I can't scroll past fast enough right now. It would be a massive improvement if the green background was eliminated.
