Who is 'your' James Bond?

  • Aprapos of nothing. I know I'll probably be destroyed for this, but Roger Moore is my guy. First one I saw, and when it comes down to it, even his crappy films were entertaining. I'd rather watch Moonraker or A View to a Kill before Diamonds are Forever, License to Kill, Die Another Day, or Quantum of Solace.

  • I said Brosnan because he played James Bond when I grew up. *shrug*

Honestly never been a big fan of any of the James Bond movies.

Connery was before my time and I don't really watch the Bond movies anyway, but for me Brosnan just screams Bond.

And I'm not sure I've even seen any of the Bond movies with Brosnan in them. In fact, I think I've only watched one Bond movie from start to finish and it was with Craig.

Elba is too old to start now. He's 46 now, so by the time Craig has moved on and they start filming #26, He'll be 50. At most, they'll get 2 movies out of him. They need to pick someone in their mid-30's who can play the roll for 10-15 years, like Craig. As much as I like Moore, he was clearly too old in his later films.

  • Gen Xer's are going to say Moore because the bling was there. That's understandable since VHS was just getting started and by the time Bond was mainstream for them the Connery movies were considered old.

    But Connery was the guy.

  • I like Craig, but when they first came out with the Bond Movies it was Connery, for me that's the benchmark and he did it very well. Replacing him with Moore and then a series of other guys till Bronson whom I really didn't thing much of either is a lot like trying to replace Clint Eastwood in the Spaghetti Westerns, or Hans Solo in the Star Wars movies. Really a hard sell when you have a iconic portrayal.

Yeah. No special effects or BS in You Only Live Twice or Diamonds are Forever.

The Connery films were actually based on the Bond novels as written by Ian Fleming, an actual British spy. Yeah, they had special effects and such, but there were real stories in there, not just excuses to blow stuff up.

The first 4 were. You Only Live Twice and Diamonds are Forever bear next to no similarity to the novels of the same names. Sorry, but Fleming never wrote about spaceships or satellites.

BTW, I'm not knocking your choice of Connery, just your logic. From Russia with Love is one of my favorite Bond films.

The question isn't 'who is the best James Bond?'.

The question is 'who is your James Bond?'.

  • I've always just been a casual Bond fan. I enjoy the movies, but I don't rush to see them or anything like that. With that said, the more modern movies I find to be better overall films, as we can do so much more with special effects and such, but Connery just oozes the essence of Bond IMO.

I loved the Connery Bonds as a kid, but have you tried to get through one lately? Yawn fest.

So for nostalgia, Connery's the man. For fun, Moore's cheesy 80's Bonds are great...........but for full on Bond action, it's now Craig, not even close for me. The action sequences and fight scenes are incredible in the new Craig Bond movies.

  • btw, shout out to Peter Sellers...........I'd watch a Pink Panther movie over a Bond movie any time either shows up on cable.

    Genius physical comic.
