Hey, I don't think it is odd at all. Like so many products of unmanned space missions, the Mars rover is a superstar. I hope one day that it, and others (of all nationalities) can be brought back to Earth one day, and retired prominently with the full honours they deserve. I know they are "only" machines, but who doesn't tend to anthropomorphise a faithful and much-loved machine, whatever it is?

I'm NOT rubbishing manned missions, simply lauding what has been done with comparatively little expenditure, in unmanned missions which have succeeded beyond all hopes.

    Vale, Mars Rover!
