  • Stupid Viral Thing Of The Week:

Many of you have probably heard about this by now. The latest "what color is her dress" sensation is this recording. Some people definitively hear "Yanny" while others definitively "Laurel".

I heard nothing but Yanny, clear as day for the first couple dozen times. I could not for the life of me figure out how anyone could hear Laurel. Then I told myself I am going to hear Laurel no matter what and after about the 5th or 6th pass, sure enough, I heard Laurel! It's very hard to describe but it's kind of like those Magic Eye posters...If you shift your perception a certain way a completely different outcome is revealed.

There's some legitimate science behind it that has to do with frequency.

    Damn voodoo!

What do you hear? Most importantly, are you able to "Magic Eye" it and suddenly hear the other name like I did? When it shifts over like it did for me it's super creepy, lol.

  • I heard it the other day and listened and heard it repeat Yanny over and over....then it flipped over to me hearing Laurel and now I can't hear Yanny for the life of me.

That's exactly how it happened for me as well. Now the only way I can hear "Yanny" is when I listen to some of the clips where they manipulate the frequency.

I don't recall seeing anyone angry over this. But I can see how one might be angry if they had a slender cylindrical object shoved up their posterior like you seem to have.

Stick up my ass, nothing. I saw people getting angry over the color of that damn dress.

But if you want to hear it both Yanny and Laurel, check this out:

    Very enlightened of me. :P

  • If I push my earbuds all the way in I hear "Laurel" but if I pull them partially out I hear "Yanny". But I couldn't replicate that with a different pair of earbuds.

And just now I listened with some other music going on at the same time and it switched back and forth. Weird.

  • Weird. About half an hour ago all I could hear was Yanny. Came back to it later and said 'Laurel' a few times in my head before playing it again and now I just hear Laurel.

Here's the visual version...is she rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise?

  • It's both! If I blink for a second right as her leg is pointing forward, I can make it change directions at will.

Not for me, it's always clockwise. I use the bottom foot as a reference, maybe that's it.

Okay now I see her going counter-clockwise.

And now, I can listen to the Yanny and Laurel audio clip and hear back and forth... "Yanny..."Laurel"..."Yanny"..."Laurel"....

    Brains are weird.

I was seeing clockwise, then I blinked a few times and now I see counterclockwise and cant get it to go back.

Edit- ok more fast blinking got it to switch back.

  • Laurel without question 100% of the time every single time. In no way did I ever hear anything remotely close to Yanny. In fact, if somebody told me he was saying a word that wasn't Laurel, and so I had to guess what word he was actually saying, Yanny would literally be the last word I would i guess.
