I also read a story (though it might not be true and might be confused with the above story) that Hogan didn't think he could slam Andre, but that Andre suggested doing it during the match. Hogan initially didn't want to do it but Andre convinced him he'd be able to do it.
Looking forward to watching the documentary when it is available on something other than HBO.
I started watching wrestling as a kid at the tail end of his career. Some of those clips from his younger days when he looked much more agile would be interesting to watch. By the time I saw him, he was largely slow and lumbering (if I recall correctly, he had basically retired before Wrestlemania III and got a special back surgery just to be able to come back.
Both these stories are in the doc...............and yes I'd never seen young Andre pre WWF, amazing to see just how agile and athletic he was, AND with that huge height and frame.
Hogan touched on that in the doc, that Andre didn't get half the credit he deserved for how athletic and strong he was. It didn't matter how big of a wrestler you thought you were, you were in Andre the Giant's world, and he had no problem letting you know it if you didn't give him that respect.
And if you did? You had a friend for life.
