Niehaus is my all-time favorite. I would actually rather listen to him on the radio then watch the game with Rick Rizzs growing up when they would switch broadcasts, lol. That's nothing against Rizzs because he was good too. That's just how great Dave Niehaus was. Calabro and Bill Walton for basketball. Dickie V for college hoops. Mayock and Gus Johnson for NFL now. Madden and Summerall before that. I always liked the MNF team of Al Michaels, Frank Gifford, and Dan Dierdorf. For college football nobody topped Keith Jackson.

Mushmouther is always messing up players' names. Herbstreit is good. I miss Keith Jackson.

Harry Carey and Steve Stone were a great duo on the Cubs' broadcasts. Harry had the whacky personality and Steve just really knows baseball. Ernie Harwell was amazing.

I've liked Al Michaels ever since his broadcast of the miracle on ice in the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Madden got a little goofy at times, but he was fun and definitely knew the game.

Mayock does a terrific job. I don't always agree with him, but I appreciate how he worked his way up and all the film study and research he does. He's never been one of those former players who just grabs a mic and acts like he's the $h1t.

Mayock's a kepper, for sure. He at least backs his opinions up with substance.

Definitely Musberger.....I aspire to have his suave at that age.

Gus Johnson is overrated....did anybody else want to put FOX CFB on mute this last year? A first down and he went nuts. His shtick is getting played out.

I always like Seth Davis....not sure he annouces per se, but guy like him and Mayock are just junkies for CBB/NFL. They're both great orators of their respective games.

Even though he's a freak, Post season basketball needs Marv Albert.

Cannot stand Musberger, just his voice, yowsers.

Calabro is the best I've ever heard, by a long ways.

Love me some Gary McCord.

Madden was so enjoyable.

Bill Walton cracks me up.

Marques Johnson.

Of course I loved Dave.

Today's game: Gus Johnson

Historically: Bill King, Keith Jackson

Locally: Calabro

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned Bill King. I know he was the voice of the Raiders, but still...his style is almost poetic.

Gus Johnson and Bob Uecker

Why Bob Uecker? Because he's such an awesome announcer and is very charismatic. Want proof? Tell me how many people have the resume he has? He's even in the WWE HOF!

Then there's Wayne Larrivee, for one simple phrase:

In soccer, I'd have to say Ian Darke and Martin Tyler are my favorites.

Hubie Brown is a color guy, but he actually provides a lot of insight to the NBA. Smart guy that knows the game from the ground up and can communicate that knowledge very quickly and easily.

You don't like Reggie? What's a matter with you, son? He can do no wrong after I witnessed him bury the Knicks, in epic fashion, in my youth. Who are ya, George Lucas? Trying to piss on my childhood...

He's the WORST announcer ever, it's like he tries to be Charles Barkley, but his jokes never fly.

Vin Scully and Keith Jackson by a wide margain.

BTW, am I the only one that likes Dave Sims (Mariners)? He's never mentioned in these things but I think he's a total pro.

Always like Dick Buck because you can understand what he says all the time and was very knowledgable.

I know many of you don't like his son but I like him a lot too for the same reason. You can understand what he says.

If you're a boxing fan as I am you have to like Michael Buffer. Sad that with the demise of the sport he has to stoop to doing progressive commercials.

I like(d) both Bucks. I didn't like Joe's commentary and faux outrage over Moss's mooning of Packers fans. That was one moment he blew, entirely.

Calabro is the best radio basketball announcer I've ever heard. The cadence that he speaks with perfectly fits the tempo of basketball. His language is creative and you can always tell what type of game it is by the diction in his voice. He was the perfect announcer for run n gun games, some announcers can't keep up and just parse the action, Calabro painted pictures of the relentless pace the Sonics used to play with, it was beautiful.

I love Gus Johnson doing basketball, not football.

Keith Jackson remains the best football announcer I've ever heard.

Baseball, Vin Scully or Niehaus. I always liked Gary Thorn for hockey.

Al Michaels has always been good. "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!!" (1980 US v. USSR Olympic hockey in case you don't know)

I usually like him calling football too (but not Collinsworth.....too many times he says "remarkable" for one thing).

When I first moved to the Seattle area, the first announcers were Dave Niehaus, Pete Gross, and Bob Blackburn. Blackburn announced the first world championship in Seattle with the Supersonics. So he gets the edge for me. Even though our teams haven't been top consistently, the announcers in the Seattle have been the best, IMO. Calabro, Raible, Rizz, Arlo White, Ross Fletcher are all solid.

Thats funny, the first thing my dad answered with when I asked him, he said it was pretty much a tie between Neihaus & Blackburn.

Seattle has been pretty damn fortunate when it comes to Sports Broadcasters, everyone has a very unique and iconic style and voice with them.

Dave Neihaus turned baseball into so much more than just a regular game, by just talking, RIP his soul

Colabro was entertaining and quick witted to go along a fast paced sport, its a perfect match with Colabro and the game of basketball.

Rick Rizzs voice just says baseball from the moment he talks.

Best part of Vin is you'll find out a players favorite color, place of birth, their second grade science project and their first dogs name all at one at bat.

I wish we had a Neihaus\Colabro type of personality call the hawks. Don't get me wrong, I like Raible, but he doesn't even approach the greatness of those two. Throwdown is correct, we are way spoiled in this category

I also can't believe no one mentioned Harry Kalas(RIP) yet. My second favorite baseball voice of all time (Neihaus being first obviously). He not only called Phillies games forever, but was also the voice of NFL films until his death. One of the most recognizable voices in history and he was so dedicated to his profession he literally died in the booth.

You talking boxing or cage fighting? 2 completely different things. Boxing is not out front right now like it used to be. You can watch cage fighting about every night but boxing rarely.

NFL - Jon GRUDEN (I like to say it in his voice), Colinsworth is alright, and John Lynch, even though he'san ex-Buc and hates the Saints
NCAAF - Herbstreit, only one I can stand
UFC - Bruce Buffer, if we're talking about actual announcers and not commentators , and Joe Rogan/Mike Goldberg for commentating

But eh, I don't hate Lynch, he's a good commentator. It's just every now and then you can catch subtle hints of teams he doesn't like. LOL. :th2thumbs:

Canada talk coming up here, but Bob Cole. I remember when I was a little kid, tweaking the bunny ears on the tv to get good reception for Hockey Night in Canada and always loved hearing his voice. He still does announce but he's 80 now and announcers just lose some of the quickness when they age. Also always liked Peter maher doing the Flames radio broadcast but he's really slipping up nowadays.

Vin Scully doesn't follow the game, the game follows him. I'm with Largent, he's one in a million.

It was like the inning itself would have to wait for Vin's anecdote to end.

"And wasn't until that fateful day when he found out his Grandfather played in the negro leagues that he knew he would spend HIS life in the major leagues.................and there's a ground ball to second to end the inning"
