  • Someone, I think Magic, mentioned this during halftime...Pat Riley has been the coach since game 2. It's funny because that's what I said. Don't know what it is about Spo, I just don't respect him as a coach.

I think its the way he carries himself, its not unprofessional by any means, he just doesn't seem like a head coach, YET. But dude is still crazy young to be a head coach, and I still think he can be a good one, but he really should've been the coach of a young up and coming team.

But he does have a ring, regardless of what we all think.

From my armchair, Spoelstra is out of his league. He's failed to ensure that Danny Green is covered at all times. Don't you realize that if you allow help off Green, he will light you up--wasn't this evident after games 3 and 4? Green needs to be one of those guys you blanket and don't help off of the rest of the way. He's also sat one of his best post defenders, Birdman Anderson, on the bench while opting to run Bosh into exhaustion--more rotation is needed for his post players so that the lanes are not more open for Parker. Sure, Parker has made some impossible shots, but most of his layups are in transition and would have been even harder if the bigs could run the floor better. Without Super LeBron making an appearance the rest of the way, the Heat aren't going to win with coaching strategy.[/quote]

My reaction to this is - Coaches coach, players play. Do you REALLY think that Spoelstra doesn't realize that Green needs to be shadowed at all times? He can instruct them, and the guys can just make mistakes. Match-ups dictate a lot. Although we've seen Lebron on Green at times, that's really a waste of Lebron because Green pretty much sticks to the perimeter and cuts along the baseline. It also takes their best perimeter defender off of Parker, Leonard or Ginobli. That leaves the likes of Chalmers, Allen and Wade to defend him. Chalmers is a great on ball defender who can occationally fall asleep. Wade as well (probably worse). Allen can't guard anyone or anything. Same with Mike Miller.

Re: Birdman - He's an above average rim protector, not the same thing as a post defender. He can't guard Duncan any better than Bosh (I believe he had 5 fouls in 17min the last time he saw action). The biggest reason his minutes are cut at this point though is because Splitter's minutes got cut. Their best post defender is J. Anthony, but I think he struggles in the pick and roll, so he's a no go as well.

It's funny - my gut says The Heat win tonight, and win in 7, actually but when I look at the series piece by piece I just don't see how the Heat can win (especially with Green shooting well and the Spurs getting a half decent to great Manu).

  • I have been loving the NBA playoffs this year, namely because the Spurs are on the cusp of winning another title. The Seahawks captured my football fandom at an early age but even though I liked the sonics growing up as a side product of being a Seahawk fan, David Robinson had me pretty firmly entrenched as a Spurs fan, then they go and get this Parker guy, that Ginobili guy, and a bunch of different role players through the years and I only can bring myself to watch Spurs games, just like during football season I don't care about watching any football except Seahawks games.

What is really wierd for me is that my favorite player now...even with the Spurs big 3 that have been so entrenched for years...is Kawhi Leonard...from the first time I saw him play last year and then seeing the improvement this year and then the next jump in play as the playoffs progressed to the finals...

all I can say is I truly love this team and I definitely think they can finish Miami tonight...it won't be easy, but I will never bet against the Spurs up 3-2 in any series...14-2 anytime they are in that scenario..they just go for the throat when they get to that point. Pop is a genius and his whole team buys into what he is selling and truly play as a team at all times.

  • Throwdown,

I find it funny you bring up Ginobili Flops when there are at least 2 Heat players that do it pretty often, and have done it this series....one of them being Lebron.

Dont be so sensative, Ginobili is a hoe and always has been. I don't find a need to diss Wade over it, he's been playing like crap. LeBron does but it doesn't happen like its second nature to him like it does with Flopobili.

  • Jalen brought up a great point pregame; its impossible for any team to hate the Spurs. There's no anger or rage for their opponents.

That's a brilliant point. In a 7 game series, after game 5, emotions such a factor, and the Spurs opponents simply cannot find any.

Screw Duncan, that fricking foreigner, its all about TMac! Finally.

  • Great game. I'm sorry, but the Heat have no business winning 2 games against the Spurs. Lebrons basketball IQ is unlike anything we've ever seen. Its comparable to Magic, but, Lebron hasn't been afforded Magic's teammates.

  • Any teams better than the Heat.

They need to look to their opposite bench for a blueprint. Don't clog the roster with 2001 Sonics and Grizzlies. Get athlete's to compensate for Wades age/injuries.

The Heat totally defeated a superior Thunder team. I think Spolstra is that bad within series and the rosters THAT laughable.

    How you figure?

Because Manu didn't get a call? They let them play, 'Bron got fouled a few times there in OT that never got called. Its good the refs swallowed their whistles down the stretch.

The game should be called consistently throughout and it wasn't. I have no vested interest in either team so the outcome doesn't matter the officiating is just awful.

But I don't think you call either. Manu especially because that idiot (I really &**& hate him right now) drove into traffic. He probably gets the call if he's got Allen 1on1.

I think it's clear the Spurs are the better team, but Miami has better players - if that makes sense. San Antonio totally shot themselves in the foot tonight. They went away from Duncan who was MASTERFUL in the first half. Parker didn't have it (although hit 2 clutch shots late - he ended up 6/23) Manu LOST THE GAME by himself - 9pts, 8 turns in about 30min. That's so horrible it's pathetic.

Then to top it off - Popovich out coached himself tonight. Confession - I hate offense / defense substitutions anyway - but they REALLY killed the Spurs tonight. Why would you take Duncan off the floor with Bosh still playing, when you're up 4? Makes NO sense. Are you afraid Bosh is going to come of a screen or something?

    So frustrating.

Unfortunately - I think Miami's got the momentum, so Game 7 is going to be tough for the Spurs.
Pop will have something in the game plan to get Tony going - he won't go 6-23 again. But what will Duncan have left in the tank? He poured his heart and soul into that game, and he's 37 with many, many miles on those tires.
Manu was awful, and they just need him to be better. And we'll find out if the media broke Danny Green, or if he still has a play or two left.

If I was Pop, I might consider giving Neal a few of Green's late game minutes - depending on the match-ups. Green has been an EXCELLENT defender of Lebron and Wade, but he struggled chasing Allen around screens last night. I'm not sure Neal could fare much better but I think he's quicker although prone to more mistakes / bad gambles. Plus - the Heat were closing out hard on Green - something we'll see again in Game 7, and Green struggled a bit putting the ball on the deck and getting to the rim, and / or creating a shot off of the dribble - something that Neal may be better at.

Lastly, at the end of the game, with James on Parker, if the Spurs had ONE other player who could play pick and roll with Duncan (PAGING MANU FREAKING GINOBLI) they would have won the game handily. Plus - as a Spurs fan / armchair coach - if you put James on Parker, I'm taking Parker off of the ball and running him through screen after screen after screen - and then settling for pick and roll action with Parker (if he got a switch) or Ginobli / Neal with creaky Wade / Allen on him, or getting the ball down low to TD who was abandoned in the 2nd half last night.

On the Heat side we'll see more of the same. We'll continue to see pick and rolls with Lebron and Chalmers / Wade. I'm sure they'll be heat checking Allen off of pin downs. Their offense has gotten simpler and simpler and at this point just comes down to Wade making jumpers and Lebron making good decisions depending on the match up he's given. What it really comes down to is defensive intensity, getting turn overs and easy buckets. I don't think I've ever seen a more front running team than the '13 Miami Heat. This is a slight dig, but it's also just true. There's an apparent cliff at about Heat +12-15 and if they can get there, the game is virtually over - otherwise there's a bunch of tight possessions that come down to Lebron bailing them out.

My gut says Heat - my basketball brain says Spurs. We'll see.

I can't express enough disgust for Ginobli. Yeah, I'm in San Antonio, and I'm sure he's a great guy that's invested in the community and does HEB commercials and whatever, but AAAARGH. Even when the dude would MAKE a shot, my wife and I were screaming at the TV. The second Manu touches the ball, seriously. Both of us, "NOOOOO!!!" It's completely absurd. He flails around, plays Manu vs Other Guys, then just awkwardly chucks the ball up if he hasn't already lost it.

He's making more money than Duncan. Does he have incriminating photos of Pop in his locker? What the hell?

8 turnovers in a single possession game. I put the loss directly on top of Manu's head.
