Would you be disappointed to see Romar leave UW?

The Huskies were a mess when Romar took over, and he brought them up to a level somewhat above mediocrity, but no further . He's a good coach, but I daresay not a great one. Will the Huskies ever get to the Final Four under Romar? Do they have a chance of ever winning the championship? Considering how crappy the Dawgs historically were pre-Romar, I think the school owes him a hell of a lot and I just don't see him ever being fired. When the rumors of his departure came up, I was hoping he would leave and begin the next chapter of his career, and let the Dawgs begin the next chapter of their run.

Nope. I like Romar, and he's done a ton for us, but I think we've topped out.

There's always the chance a new coach makes it worse, but I think it's time for new vision. Like recruit something other than athletic slashers! Then again I think I just get jealous watching Gonzaga's offense. They actually have one.

Except Ultratwink doesn't seem to be able to get the ball in after driving into the low paint. Add a dunk and the kid'd have game a little.

I like Romar, but it does seem like they've peaked as a program with him. The problem is though, would they be able to upgrade the position if he left? I don't know how attractive the UW basketball job is to somebody that didn't go to the school or has some kind of ties to the area.

This is crazytalk. UW isn't a program that could land someone better, and Romar gets burnt by his over-recruiting at times.

Also, he has had two Final Four caliber teams with Nates and Isiah's. That's not too shabby.

Somewhat related... Aaron Gordon, the number 4 player in the country and Blake Griddin 2.0 is announcing his decision on April 3rd where he's going to college. Oregon, Washington and Arizona are thought to be his finalists. I have a feeling he goes to Arizona, but Oregon and Washington are still very much possibilities. I'm sure he'll be a 1 and done kid, but he'll be huge next year for whichever school he chooses, and incredibly fun to watch. His dad is buddies with Romar. He played high school ball with Ducks freshman point guard Dominic Artis, and Arizona's, Arizona. So they all have some pull.

I don't think he's going anywhere, but he really hasn't taken the team anywhere lately. The best recruits are going elsewhere, the team doesn't play consistently, they only play defense in spurts, rebounding and shot selection is always a trial. And these are the same complaints year after year.

That's what sells the program though. If players come to UDub, they get to just play. For the most part, that's put UDub on the map in terms of recruiting and relevance.

Hmmm, maybe, but that's not what should happen at an elite institution. I feel like he is just at this certain level and will never get better. Not good enough.

I won't disagree with you Jazz.

I'm just of the opinion UDub isn't a program that could get better, yet. Itd have to be a guy who's style can recruit better than Romar, only guy I can think of would be FLGC guy. His offense and style could recruit Top 5, every year.

He's lost three players early to the NBA in the past two years, which would devastate most programs. I'm a little alarmed with the focus of the recruiting. We don't have any scoring wings going forward.

The PG we got this year is supposed to be a stud. I think Jerrau is going to be excellent. Andrews should be pretty darn good. Kemp is getting really good. The Dawgs are about to be back on the upswing.

I do have serious doubts about Romar's ability to teach X's and O's, but he did bring in an offensive specialist of an assistant last year, so hopefully we see the fruits of that hire shortly. I still think we could use better assistants.

All in all, he may be the best ambassador for any program in the country, and I'm happy to have him. If the NIT is a down season, I'll take it. Do I expect to win a national championship? No. Probably not. But we make the tournament more often than not, and win the league often enough. He is such a good guy that he makes me proud to be a Husky fan. I'll extend him and root for him as long as he wants to be here.

I got the Same feeling and Jerrau, that you do, Tical.

Andrews (while his name is damn redundant) brings a lot off the bench, I already like him more than the out of control chaos Venoy Overton brought (still trying to figure out what people saw in him).

He's not going anywhere, nor should he.

It's hilarious some want him gone or "wouldn't mind" a new direction...the dawgs freaking won the PAC last year. How short some people's memories are. We didn't have a program before Romar, and he had a down year, big freaking woop. Romar stays and he deserves to.

LOVED Venoy. Dude couldn't play a lick of offense, but when he covered a guy, you could literally see the diarrhea start to roll down the back of their leg. One of the best on-ball defenders I have ever seen.
