Sigi is starting Joseph at forward? God, what a dumbass. I can't wait for him to be canned.

  • Quick to jump on him... I think its an interesting strategy.

He wants to keep the diamond, but is out neagle and oba isn't ready for 90.

Shalrie makes sense. Keep demspey in the CAM role, he will open up space. He's always been best withdrawn from a forward in space.

Shalrie can win aerial balls and was a key element to getting us a goal last match. For 60 minutes its not a bad strategy. We just became more dynamic on set plays.

  • Joseph at forward could be genius, good shot, good in the air and great passer. It also covers up his obvoius deficiencies on defense.

  • Yeah....That was something alright...

Sigi definitely on the hot seat after this one.

Had the talent to get it done, failed. Defensive shape in shambles pretty much all year. Need stabilizing player in the backline. Previously it was Jeff Parke and he's been missed since he left.

    Now tough choices to make.

Do we bring back Sigi? If not, who? Kries? Schmetzer?

Do we bring back EJ? and for how much?

Do we bring back Mauro....Definitely not a DP

Do we designate Ozzie a DP?

Do we re-sign Evans? I really hope so. He's matured into the type of Captain I want on this team.

Does Oba stay until next year? (our history with mid-season DP's is astonishingly terrible).

Who do we bring in to solidify the back line?

  • Putting Joseph at forward in a critical match is just a terrible decision. Sigi has trouble putting a decent lineup lately. I've seen snails move faster than Joseph. It would have been better to put Rosales there to begin with. Rosales has lost some speed but is still faster and a better passer than Joseph. Hell, I would have put Yedlin at forward before putting Jospeh there. Are we ever going to see Zakuani play again? If not, why is he still on the roster? The Sounder defense is pathetic and needs a lot of work. That was a piss poor showing for a team with its back to the wall in an elimination game.

I think it's time to move on from EJ, I love him as a player but his tactical acumen and vision are lacking, which is fine if he didn't want DP money but he does.

Unless I'm mistaken Mauro is only a DP because of his transfer cost, so he could technically resign for the same salary.

I wonder if Seattle can use the mysterious "retention fund" to resign Ozzie and not lose a DP slot. SKC did it with Zusi who makes DP money but isn't classified as such.

  • EJ won't get DP money. He'll get the Kasey Keller special. $300,000.

Mauro will probably be back but not as a DP as you indicated. Alonso will get a raise via retention funds alla Hurtado.

It'll be interesting to see how the off-season goes.

  • Eddie Johnson is the laziest player I've seen. I spent more time this season yelling at him than I did cheering for the team. He breaks off runs looking bored more often than anyone else I've seen, only to have the through pass he was waiting for roll right by him to the defense.

And he doesn't pass on breakaways, just steps over 5 times before allowing the defense to take the ball away from him. (how many times has he EVER scored with the stupid fake pass stepover move).

Other than being a tall tree that can head balls into the goal, what does he do exactly?

his comments may not be on point.... but his sentiments are in the right place. EJ hasnt really ingratiated himself with the Sounders fans this season, and alot of that comes with the way he carries himself on the field. He "looks" lazy. he "looks" bored. He honestly "looks" above it all.

the issue that the Sounders have with EJ is that he was supposed to be playing for a spot on the USMNT... and this was the best he could give the Sounders. its not exactly promising.

  • Find me a forward who gets as few touches as EJ that doesn't look disinterested or bored at times. Eddies issue is more decision making than a perceived lack of effort.

So where might he go? Well, there was a tweet from a Canadian reporter Tuesday that Toronto FC could be interested . For a Sounders team always up against the salary cap, a trade to an Eastern Conference team for allocation money might be ideal if indeed the team is looking to unload Johnson.

Not surprising, but part of me wonders if this could be a negotiation technique as well...

...do you really want more money if you're going to have to play your football in Toronto....

    what are you building on?

a notoriously ineffective coach with a midfield that was overrun and a defense that was left chasing shadows by division rivals.

yeah, they made a call... it was a bad one.

I'm calling you out here Smurf. if you want to be taken seriously as a fan.. hell, if you want to be taken seriously as a franchise, as a league, a coach like Sigi needs to be shown the door. what other soccer league in the world would allow a similar situation to continue unchanged? this is the sh-- that happens when you let supporters choose their GM.

one cannot rip on Timbers fans for being pessimestic about overcoming RSL then turn around and try and endorse this move or line of thinking. Before you know it you're the soccer version of the Mariners. The Sounders were blown away by their bitter rivals. and I mean blown away. outplayed, outcoached, outclassed. and yet they cared little enough about yet another early bow out of the playoffs by rehiring the same manager.

Caleb Porter was out there, and the Timbers got him. There are a whole generation of coaches similar to him available. Seattle chose to stay with someone who consistently is outcoached for the sake of consistency...

  • I was 50/50 on keeping Sigi. Yeah, things haven't gone as well as we'd all hoped. Thats true. Sh-- the bed in consecutive post season appearances....No good.

On the same token, who do you bring in to replace Sigi? and whoever we do bring in there is no guarantee of success like Porter.

Am I a fan of the decision to keep Sigi? No. Am I unhappy about it? No. There is something to be said about stability in any sports franchise.

That's where I stand. Their are some who are in the same boat as me, some who scoffed at the idea of keeping sigi, and some who scoffed at the idea of getting rid of him. This is a very split decision, which ever way they went it was going to make people unhappy. I just happy to have been OK either way.

I am a very optimistic sports fan. It takes a lot for me to call for a coaches head....a lot....I've only done it once, and that was with Jim Mora...and I was weeks ahead of most with that opinion.

I think we can win with Sigi. I do. The players he has at his disposal right now? I'm not so sure. I think there needs to be some work done.

Those players I mentioned? Those players arent going anywhere. They are the heard of the team. They are staying. Players like EJ, Oba, Gspurning....they could be gone. I'm pretty sure EJ is 70% of the way out the door and I absolutely hate that. I think EJ has done wonderful things for this club and I want him here. I think he is a big part of this teams current identity.

Also, I'd like to correct a statement you made. Supporters choose the GM....sure...that comes down to players....not coaches. The call to keep Sigi was made by the ownership.

This team is going to retool, and return next season gunning for that cup. I think they can get it done.

if Dempsey ends up back in the PL I wouldnt be so sure he's coming back to the MLS....

also, why have a GM if he didnt have any say in the decision to re-hire the manager. Lets be clear, thats part of his job. if he wasnt consulted, he shouldnt be there

Dempsey will be back next season. I believe him when he says he's committed to this club and winning an MLS Cup. Also don't think the club/league would let Dempsey leave like that. Don't think Dempsey wants to leave the league as a failure either.

As for the GM thing, clouded issue.. He was consulted...as he did make the decision, but not as the GM. He made it as part of the Ownership group.

Adrian Hanauer is both GM of the Sounders and Minority owner.

There is a reason that Joe Roth made the statement and not Hanauer.

  • GK Marcus Hahnemann has just come out and confirmed that he will be returning next season.

Oba Martin's was quoted in an Italian paper as wanting to return to Europe. Specifically he wants to play for Mancini at Galatasary in Turkey. He wants to make Nigerias world cup roster.

Not sure if this means loan or if we will sell him.
