  • At this point, I'm not believing anything until I hear word of an official press conference in Seattle. Nobody actually involved in the negotiations is saying shit. They said it was a done deal on Wednesday, and we saw how that turned out. I have to admit it's looking really good, but the sleezy Maloof brothers throw any actual credibility out the window. I won't even entertain a % of chance the deal is done because of the current COMPLETE TOOL owners. Their dad would be so embarrassed by his complete business failure sons that inherited all his dough.

  • I don't buy it. I think they are just trying to drive the price up. The Kings have been in a financial mess a long time. The Arco arena is terrible. D they really think they could make money there? That Athens question and I say..nope.

  • If it's not from the NBA at this point or a completly public mainstream source I will not buy it. Too many hands getting in the cookie jar at the last minute, handshake agreements work out like their Arena deal, especially with this family.

  • .NET Sonics 2.0 Beat Reporter Throwdown here with something a little interesting wayyyy too damn early on a Saturday Morning:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nb ... f8557950=1
    @sam_amick
    With the end of the Kings & rebirth of the Sonics seeming inevitable, Kevin Johnson says he's still in this game

    Sounds like the NBA might actually be favoring Seattle at the cost of Sactown...
    @sam_amick
    A line that was added late: Sacramento proposal must include viable arena plan to be taken seriously by NBA

    Now didn't the NBA and KJ have a deal hashed out and agree'd upon? I thought that proposal was still on the table for any owner or the Maloofs if they changed their minds, now its not good enough?

    After reading that tweet, it seems like the only thing that could keep the Kings from becoming the Sonics is someone from Kansas City comes in and offers what Hansen & Ballmer offered with the Sprint Center read to go now.

  • It's my understanding that the arena deal died when the Maloofs pulled out. It wasn't passed as some general standing offer to any potential Kings owner, it was a very specific thing that was voted on by their council and what not but was nullified when there was no final agreement. KJ has suggested that the same deal would be available, but I'm pretty sure they'd have to vote again and all that, and that's assuming the Sac owners would all be signed on to that exact deal. That's a lot to swing in a short time, especially when you consider it's hard to negotiate an arena deal when you aren't the team owners and you can't be the team owners without an arena deal.

  • We ain't getting no team anytime soon...

    So the potential hang-up I'm hearing with the sale of the Sacramento Kings is that the Maloofs don't just want to
    retain a small percentage of ownership, they still want a voice in how the franchise is run. Their leverage, a source said, is to threaten to take the sweetheart deal still waiting for them in Orange County and, should the other owners not approve the deal out of allegiance to Dr. Buss and the Lakers, take them to court with an anti-trust suit. That is far messier than anybody wants, Maloofs included I suspect, but I also can't see anyone buying the team and still giving the Maloofs any sort of say. The March 1 deadline to file for the rights to play somewhere other than Sacramento next season might be the biggest motivator in all of this

    I'm just about finished with my hopes right now.

  • See my post earlier, they want someone basically to front them money for a Arena, and pay off their debts while they maintain operations control of the team where ever it is at. They get to play owners and make decisions while someone else writes the checks for everything.

    They are delusional at best. Hansen or anyone for that matter won't sign on to a deal that has their skanky fingerprints on it anywhere if thats what they expect.

    It's because the City passed the buck to the state, it wasn't a state issue it was the cities responsiblity and council. They were getting heat and trying to save face at this point, they were also m,aking deals with Bennett for their 45 million kick back after they knew he was leaving and they could not stop it.

  • California is broke. Anybody really think the taxpayers are going to foot the bill for a arena and to buy a team ? Just relax, it's all posturing. They know the Seattle group has deep pockets and are trying to play them to get some more $$. This group would have showed up a long time ago they still have Arco arena to deal with and where is the cash for that coming from?

    Well from the article that throw posted, the arena from the Sac group would be privately funded by those involved in the purchase of the team.

    So where were this investors a few months ago when it was all the talk? Johnson said he was going to hunt up investors and boom out of nowhere there are some. a few months ago they could not get buyers or a group that wanted a Arena. Things can change but a buyer for the team and willing to build an arena in a weeks time when they tried for months before. There has been no information on how much the Maloofs would be involved either.

    Again sounds like a tactic that is maybes what ifs and stuff until one of those groups makes a conference and appearence.

    Well I guess there was a reason he had body gaurds then, seen him at the Weston downtown not long afterwards. Wonder how much that cost the city. I didn't think most Mayors had a contingent of them.

  • Sac buyers will be given a chance to match. NBA also has to approve. Stern has said he doesnt want to take the NBA away from Sac.

    This deal is far from done. The Maloofs are going broke, and are probably just using Seattle to milk a higher bid out of local buyers.

  • What pisses me off is that the Times and the Tribune are posting front-page stories based on these stupid little tweets. Don't major news outlets corroborate sources anymore, or is that something we just don't do in the twentyfirst century. In the old days, you don't run a story unless the "league source" has confirmation by another source. It's the newspapers that are jerking us around.
