Feel the rebuild should happen this year, especially with felix done. I doubt the front office will allow it though. Has to happen soon though. Have they ever done a full school astros take it down to the studs and tank type of season? Or has poor drafting stopped that with the ackley, montero etc disasters?

Yes. Cut the rot out before the necrosis goes any deeper.

Just get starting pitching. I'd say go for it this year, but if the team struggles early then I'd be fine trading away all the big pieces before the trade deadline.

Mariners need ballers. Competition. Guys that get after it and have a chip on their shoulder. I love what the Astros did. Their entire line up is full of ballers. Looks like there will be plenty of competition at first base. Still unsure about center field....and Im gonig to throw 3rd base as a question mark too. I just don't think Seager is the guy. He's not hitting above .280 and he's not a guy that will spark the dug out. Need more production from him. Otani is probably a better fit in the NL but would be pretty sweet to sign him....

Addison Russell/Kyle Schwarber/Ian Happ and Javier Baez.
A combo of two of those with lower prospects. Those are the rumors around here.
Bryant?I think him and Rizzo are untouchable as it gets lol.

No Bryant or No Russo = No Pax IMHO.
You don’t get a power left handed pitcher who when is healthy is dominant as it gets for less than top talent.
Sounds like wishful thinking by the cubs.

Agreed but we're talking about Dipoto here. He has no clue on pitching. He'll give away pitching for batters. That's why the M's have to rely on the likes of Gallardo, Ramirez, etc. Even if Smyly was healthy, the pitching regressed last season for the M's.

Well those players I listed have 4 to 5 years of team control to Paxton's 2 years..I don't want Pax to go but those players I listed are not garbage..Baez is loaded big time with star makeup with gold glove defense at SS/2B/3B and OF..Schwarber is called the "Baby Bambino"a LH with great power and he can play CA/!B/LF and DH..Russell is a gold glove SS and 2B as well.He hits good in the clutch. He has good power,Happ was rookie last year and hit 24 Hr's..He plays 2b/3b and outfield..They call him baby Zobrist. The key to this trade will be Baez and two of the others with lower level pitching thrown in..As I said it's rumor but I keep hearing it and seeing it In Cubs Den as well..I noticed over the years that the Cubs/M's seem to trade quite a bit..

The only place I saw that rumor is at the site you provided.
IMHO “club control” is overrated when many teams including the Mariners extend players before it gets to that point of FA or arbitration. There is no salary cap in baseball, only self imposed budgets.

Potential in baseball is a four letter word. When trading power left handed pitching you’re (generally speaking) stupid IMHO to not get a proven commodity back. I’m not trying to sound like a Richard Cranium, but I don’t care about nicknames, sorry.

Schwarber is an all or nothing hitter and while he hit 30 dingers is a human out machine (.211) at the ML level so far, he’d be nothing more than a throw in, and may end up a tweener or AAAA player. The other players seem like 20-25 HR, 60-70 rbi guys whose power safeco field will zap a bit, nothing eye popping when you are giving up a power lefty ace when healthy.

If the Cubs don’t want to include one of the big 2 I mentioned, plus other goodies then.....NO dice Chicago, and I’m hanging up the phone if I’m Jerry D. The Mariners have to focus on helping the Mariners, not the Cubs....by trading away an Ace, you are creating a HUGE whole while slightly improving other positions. If I’m trading away the rarest of commodity’s in baseball, a power throwing lefty Ace, I’m getting MY price, and it’s going to sting the trading partner a bit, as they will have to overpay to work out a deal.

Spare parts (not superstars) and potential isn’t intriguing enough in this situation, IMHO. :)

The Mariners slogan for the upcoming season should be, Just Don't Suck.

I know what you are saying but they are thin and these guys can play multiple spots.
I did say the Cubs would have throw a couple sp pieces from the minors.I meant good ones btw.
Forget the nicknames..4-5 players for Pax looks decent when Pax could be another Brandon Morrow.
As I have said in the past Pax is our ace,I love his game too but the injuries scare me.

Quantity doesn’t always = quality.
You are absolutely right about Pax’s Injury history, he could blow his arm out in the first pitch of spring training 2018.....
But so can every pitcher in the bigs and the minor leagues.

You also need to factor in perception of a trade like you proposed by a pissed off and ever shrinking fanbase.
Trading away an Ace that can dominate when healthy for non big names doesn’t help sell tickets and keep viewers watching their product, in fact will keep them away in droves.

I’m still not intrigued by a handful of “minor leaguers with potential”, “defensive specialists”, and guys like Schwarber that can’t hit a breaking ball to save his life, for a lefty Ace that when healthy can dominate. I think you are severely underestimating the size of the hole a loss of Pax would create for Seattle.

Like I said, if I’m Dipito, I tell the Cubs, “Go big or go home”, no Rizzo or no Bryant no deal. If one of those guys is agreed upon, then quite a bit of the “supplemental talent” you mentioned would have to be thrown in. Not a fair deal for the Cubs you say???

Oh well, don’t care, that’s the price if I’m in Jerry’s shoes. :)
