Blood test determines severity of concussions

It's being used to test hockey players, but the NFL should take notice.


"The tests showed that concussed players had elevated levels of a special nerve protein, called tau, in the blood. By measuring the levels of tau in a standard blood test, the researchers say it is possible to determine the severity of a concussion one hour after the injury was sustained. Additionally, the test can predict with an even greater degree of accuracy which players would experience long-term symptoms and therefore need to rest for longer."

This is a real breakthrough if it's accurate. Tau protein is the thing that makes CTE the big killer it is. i wonder if the buildup of tau in the brain somehow corresponds to taking additional hits to the head while the tau is still in the system. Like the body dumps more of this tau shit into the blood and it clogs up the brain.

This could be very huge...
