The Texans should sign him. They play the Niners this week.

And how has that strategy worked out for the Noners?

PS maybe, we did just open up a spot

If they wanted to, they couldn't sign him to the practice squad unless he cleared waivers.

Basically, if any player with less than four years experience is cut they go to waivers, and teams can pick that player up off of waivers, with the team with the worst record in the previous year getting first dibs, and going down from there. If a team picks up a player off of waivers they can't put him on their practice squad, as by rule they have to open up a spot for him on their 53 man roster. If a player clears waivers he is free to sign onto a team's practice squad that he wants.

Long story short is that if Daniels doesn't clear waivers he has to be put on someone's 53 man roster, and if he does clear waivers, he's most likely just going to be a FA or be resigned to the 9ers practice squad.

I'm just saying, he wouldn't have a shot at the 53 until next preseason, we could've released Konz in anticipation for the next 24 hours.

I dunno it's just mindless speculation on my part.

Don't need him. TJ is just fine as backup. We can find our own 7th rd QB in next years draft if we can't re-sign TJ.

TJ is basically the perfect back-up for this team, and I think we should keep him for as long as he's reasonably priced. I have a feeling there might be a perception in the league that he's only suited for our system, so that helps our cause. QBs have a long shelf life in this league, especially back-ups who don't see much action. Don't necessarily see the benefit of youth at this position as long as Russell is on his rookie deal.
