They kind of fascinate me.

The talent they have is indeed top 5, without a doubt. Yet, no one takes them seriously as contenders? Their coach is great, IMO, he's dealt a rough hand every year with poor ownership and management. I REALLY thought they should've taken a flyer on Geno or Barkley this past draft. I think Dalton what keeps them from ever being considered great.

Random musing today, sorry. I really want to be kearly...but keep my good looks.

Dalton needs to move a step beyond game manager but I have them to win their division and it very well should be either them or Houston vs Denver in the AFC Championship, IMO.

Of course they'll win the division, its the Hard Knocks factor. Last time they went 6-0 in the AFC North after a Hard Knocks year.

IMO, the reason they'll never be a true blue contender is because of their ownership and front office. A well run organization would've brought in another QB to compete with the ginger. Hell, his skills dont even jive well with their talent and WR and TE. They need a stronger arm, hypothetically.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Bengals. I like Marvin and sympathize with perennial losing franchises.

I don't think they make the playoffs.

1. Pittsburgh
2. Baltimore
3. Cincinatti
4. Cleveland

Don't trust Dalton.

Cleveland's winning this year. The stepford GM and coach are gone.

From a betting angle I think Cleveland, like Cincy and St Louis of recent years will be one of the best teams ATS. I know I will be monitoring them verrrrry closely. They are going to be a competitive squad.

As long as you have a QB with the last name Dalton or Weeden then I'll see you at the bottom of the division.

Agreed.

They already have the talent...and now they add a great DC and Weeden (the Englishseahawks FAVORITE) in year two. Every team in that division should be 8 wins.

Holmgren and Shurmer we're just horrific and seemed uninterested.

I'd be shocked if every team in that division was at 8+ wins.

The Bengals might win the division (because of the brilliance of AJ Green, who makes Dalton look passable as a QB), but I think we'll see a 9-8-7-6 kind of distribution. Highly doubt any team makes double-digits in the win column. And that 6 wins might be too generous for Cleveland (who, let's face it, are going to finish last again).

I think you're selling Cleveland short, vols. But we'll see. They have talent where you want it, and at QB a dude who can at least make all the throws. I had a VERY low opinion of the tone Holmgren set there. I think Holmy and Shurmur's absense will help alot.

I agree with you on Holmgren/Shurmur being a disaster there, but I think of it in the same way that I think of central Oklahoma. A tornado passes through and makes the place a disaster area. Then a second tornado passes through the existing disaster area, leaving - yup, you guessed it - disaster. Holmgren and Shurmur were that SECOND tornado, imo.

I think the Browns are trapped in a loop, unfortunately for them. They keep hiring and firing regimes, meaning that they're starting over constantly. They keep having to determine their new "identity" and then go out and get the players to fit it. I don't think much of any of their skill position players, honestly. They've got some interesting guys on D, but they've been constantly hampered by bad coaching.

Maybe Norv will work magic with Weeden, but I'm doubtful. Maybe Horton will be able to bring his creativity to the Cleveland D. But I'm not a believer in Chudzinski at all.

Vols, but they have the GREATEST Auburn QB of all-time there, right?

You made me laugh with the tornado analogy. Good work, il Duce.

Cleveland as 8.5 feels wrong, just because of Weeden.

Did Cincy clean up their linebacker deficit?

I could play Will with that line. I know, I know, you're the founding member of the Tim Ruskell fan club, so this is hard to hear.

But, DL makes the LB's, not the other way around.

Yeah, well that D-line isn't making Burfict and Maualuga any faster. Burfict is a liability when teams pass, and Rey is a liability most of the rest of the time. a deficit at MLB could leave them a bit soft underneath.

Who do they have at RB?

Heh, I think the under on Cleveland is a damn fine bet.

(and because I'm an SEC guy, I know what winning looks like... and I don't see a lot of it in the AFC North this season  )

They have the rookie from UNC so we don't know.

8.5 for Cleveland? That's a an under I'd take all day.

I agree on 8.5 seeming awfully high for Cleveland-it's just hard to imagine on risking money when their ceiling is likely 9.

I'm going to look at my sheet (Hilton) again. 6.5 seems right. But I will look.

AJ Green is a beast, and their front 7 is legit, but I just don't see Dalton being able to take his game to the next level. They will continue to be a mediocre team for the foreseeable future.

You guys have good eyes. Cleveland's line is 6 with -130 on the over. And +110 under.

I would go heavily on Cincy Over and to win division. I think they get 10 wins.

I would go under on Pitt and Baltimore.

Cleveland? 6 seems right to me. I think they will be very competitive but not sure how many more wins they earn. After looking at their schedule I found seven wins fairly easily but keep in mind I have Pitt and Balt undervalued.

Just don't see it yet. They might get to 7 though given that division is close. Thing is Baltimore will be better than people think even then the division is Cincinniati's to win. If Pittsburgh falls off a cliff, which is possible because their defense is OLD then I could see Cleveland possibly getting to 9-7 if all the planets align. More realistically they are probably 6-10 maybe 7-9.

Cincy went 10-6 last year, with 8.7 estimated wins and the 12th ranked DVOA. Their weighted DVOA ranked 7th, sandwiched between Chicago and Washington. Their running game is almost dead average, and their pass game is below the NFL median, even though it has a positive DVOA. Overall, their offense is essentially average, but that's more than enough to win when your defense ranked 3rd in weighted defense (ours ranked just 7th).

I was a Dalton skeptic during the 2011 draft, but I think he's proven me wrong. He showed real progress during the 2012 season when it came to progressing through reads and facilitating the offense.

I thought Cincy had a pretty nice draft. I was all for drafting Tyler Eifert at #25, had he reached us. Giovanni Bernard has that Chris Polk gene that I like in RBs. I wasn't a fan of Hunt and Williams, but both have the athleticism to prove me very wrong. Later on they'd add LB Sean Porter and Cobi Hamilton, two flawed but exciting football players that I really like. Porter is kind of like a hybrid of Bruce Irvin and KJ Wright, in that he's got a lot of reach and physicality like Wright but excels as a 3-4 type rusher like Irvin (probably) would. Hamilton can be nitpicked for technique but has size, speed, and college production in the SEC.

Not every pick the Bengals made was a homerun, but I think their draft places comfortably in the top 10 this year, based on my own evaluations. Their best picks happened to be areas where they needed help the most too (TE, RB, LB, WR). Cincy has drafted as well as any team not named the Seahawks over the last 4 years, too. So keep an eye on them.

This is a young team with the kind of physicality and youth you just don't see anywhere other than Seattle. Their division is crumbling around them. Yes, they did over-achieve last year a bit, but this isn't a team I'd bet against at all, at least in terms of making the playoffs.

Re Margus Hunt. With the defense they field, they can afford to add a project with quirky intangible upside.

I didn't want him as a Seahawk, but I will be fascinated to see how he develops in Cincy.

Bengals are my AFC pick of 2014 season, but hawks will beat them in Super Bowl. :179422:

Man, the jokes are never going to stop concerning Hernandez he really is an idiot. On the otherhand I think Kearly has it right Dalton is pretty good and that team does have some serious talent. They just need to put it all together regardless I think the division is their's this year.

After spending years annoyed by Norv here where all my friends love the Chargers, he will elevate the Browns O.

Take the over.

I expect them to be one of the surprising teams this year.
