Ref Easley who officiated the Packers game said he received dozens of death threats. Doesn't want to officiate at any level anymore.

Didn't Golden get death threats too?

In a week where we are repeatedly berated by the inconsequential utterances of 20+ year old men with the combined intellects of a 5 year old , let us remember that the Trolls and Ingrates that have shown their SanFran **** Eating grins (and sometimes make you feel like they deserve a KC smile) are sadly the upper end of the eschelon of lame ass fans...

I hate this. It's such a stupid and uncalled for thing to threaten someone's life over a sports game. I editorialized about this trend of hate-bashing in sports for my college newspaper awhile back if anyone's interested in reading it.

To hell with Packers fans. I lived in that pos state for a decade. Never again. Besides, they're all ignoring the refs gifting them their only touchdown that night by giving them a bogus PI call on Kam that should have been a punt at midfield. We'd have won 7-6 if you want to go back and try to fix every potential officiating blunder; but noooo, they only whine about things that would only benefit them by being changed.

That's disgusting treatment of a guy just doing his job. Sadly, I doubt it was just GB fans ringing him up & threatening him.

Can we do something for him? Not as Seahawks fans to "thank him", because I think he made a good call based on the rules as I understand them. I'm sure we've all hit the bottom at some point and just something nice would get us through. What can we do for this man just to make his life better? I'm sure especially at the holidays something from a large group that says, "You're all right and we'd hate to see you give up on something you're good enough at to do it at a top level... so get back on that horse and go do it and don't listen to the morons!" Or just some Omaha Steaks. :)

I know there are enough people with problems in the world, and especially now there are families that need a ton. But sometimes its the forgotten people who do their best in life and just get kicked and then kicked while they're down that deserve some encouragement and positive feedback from real people who want to make their day better. I know that makes me sound a little bit of a bleeding heart, and I say to you, you're darn right I am, and I am proud of it.

Has it been confirmed yet that the death threats came from Mike and Mike? Seems pretty odds on to me.

Edited to add: some people have a dangerously warped sense of perspective. The same thing happens to European soccer referees all the time. It's sickening.

It wasn't "Mike and Mike", it was only "Mike" Greenburg.

Absolute BS. Of all the bad calls people have to focus on that one. I feel bad for the guy. I thought maybe starting a facebook page in support of him would be good but it would probably received only more bullshit.

How about a note of positivity or a letter drive of positive snail mail? Does anybody have his address? I'm sure it's leaked out there somewhere. We should all write him a note and send it off. Just think if he got nice letters everyday for like 2 weeks from random people offering him support. I think it would make a world of difference. Hell, since he's not employed by the NFL anymore, then I think the Seahawkers should start up a fund and bring him to a game and provide him and his wife with a great weekend in Seattle to show how people should be treated. Not a "reward" for the game, but just a little showing of human compassion and decency for somebody who did the best he could and did nothing wrong but try to do a very hard job in a nearly impossible situation. The NFL refs should be thanking him if they really think the call was that bad, because that was the impetus for them getting their way in their negotiations, but they are all bastards that won't stand up for a "scab" no matter what. That just shows what a-holes all of the Hochulis and Mike Careys of the world are. It would seem that they are the big names and could say "Lay off and cut the man some slack. No matter what, everybody makes mistakes and people disagree on calls all the time."

But they have NOT and that just shows me what a bunch of P's of S the NFL refs are. They are going to sit back and let that man take the bullets and back stabbings and death threats because they are selfish, greedy, pricks.

A classic example of to many people thinking sports are more important than anything else.

Preach it Brother! I preferred the replacement referees the whole time because they weren't beholding to anyone, they called the game to the best of their abilities.

And add the Green Bay Packers to the "s*it list." They have done nothing to mitigate the vitriol directed at this guy. The pack act like that one call ruined everything. If they are such Hot Sh*t, they should have never been in the position where ONE CALL made the difference in the game. The Seahawks kicked their ass up and down the field all day long and like others have pointed out, if it hadn't been for a bogus PI on Kam, the point would have been moot.

For Rodgers it's okay when they get a call, but not when anyone else does. I hope they make an early exit from the playoffs.

Thanks for the link Cutter. You are very right and in your editorial. I have learned from my mistakes and have tried to tone down my on line banter. Its something I will continue to work on.

Just to take it one step further. I was a Seahawk season ticket holder back in the "Its Now Time" era the first few years of Holmgrens tenure. I had season tickets for $100 at the 300 level in the Kingdome and than end zone of Husky Stadium. People seemed easier going then, but I noticed a trend at the end of my season ticket time that people began to be in your face and fights broke out. Maybe it was the drinking that the NFL promotes but I just couldn't imagine bringing my kids into that environment. My point is that its just a game and some fans take things way too serious. I used to sit with Raider, Chief, Bronco, and Charger fans and talk football but it seemed to shift in the early 2000's to guys wanting to meet each other in the parking lot or having to watch your back at the urinal. American football fans seem to be shifting into the mode of European soccer fans slowly but surely.

As for the death threats, this really bothers me. I hadn't weighed in yet but this is getting sad. Its uncalled for. Even when the Seahawks lost in Super Bowl XL, I never even considered a death threat and the stakes were so much higher in that game than a Monday Night Fottball game with 3/4 of the season plus remaining. I know its a minority of Packer fans that made these death threats but it just goes to show every fan base has them. No matter how many times I hear about Packer fans being the best fans because they have such great tail gating, fans own the team, sell outs, waiting list, etc. I will always be sure to remind them that they also have been known to issue death threats on referees over a bad call in a regular season game.

Great posts guys. I'm with you SEC FAN. I desperately want to take my son to a game... but don't want to deal with the side effects. I take him to MLS games once in a while, and those fans are terrific. Opposing fans are just like you say. They will talk soccer and its all about enjoying the game. Baseball games seemed like that too, until the recent incidents with the Dodgers fans and the Giants.

I feel the NFL has gotten way too seriously. I think another part of it is the increased emphasis on fantasy football and gambling. Gambling and the NFL go hand in hand. I think casinos probably take in more money per game on the NFL than any other sport, so a point here or there makes guys crazy. Same with the fantasy players who aren't as interested in their HOME team as their FANTASY team. They get all liquored up and then are going bonkers that their player isn't getting stats, and they are checking their phone every five minutes during the game getting angrier and angrier that the a-hole in the next cubicle is going to beat him this weekend and he's going to have to hear about it at the office tomorrow. It has just really seemed to devalue the fan experience in a lot of ways to me. I think the lack of fantasy teams really helps the college game experience. Same with limiting beer sales or campuses that don't have them altogether. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of buttheads at BYU games, but it's a pretty good environment to take my son to a game, because alcohol just isn't an issue. Don't get me wrong... I have ZERO issue with people drinking. It seems to not be too bad at baseball games where the beer flows freely. I just think that guys getting plastered with this idea of coming in and becoming a complete menace are becoming more the norm than not.

I am completely with you on Super Bowl XL. Nothing of the sort EVER crossed my mind in any way, shape, or form. I just remember wishing that the refs had done a better job and the team had overcome the bad calls or lack of good calls, or whatever it was that happened. I remember thinking that if Bill Leavy reffed a Hawks game I'd want to boo so loud he couldn't even announce penalties. Just totally drown him out. I thought that would have been funny and let him know what we thought of him. Bad job Bill. Boo on you. But death threats? Absolutely disgusting.
