The NCAA does next to nothing to ensure the health of their players and it doesn't surprise me that this kid's condition was somehow missed.

Rooks' agent, Richard Kopelman, thanked medical personnel and the Chiefs for likely saving the player's life.
"Odds are he would not have survived," Kopelman told Chiefs Digest. "It was really a very tenuous situation. We're just so happy the Chiefs did what they did with Tavon in terms of the level of care he received from them, and then they got him into a good hospital with great care."
