Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Kevin White needs to have surgery on a stress fracture in his left shin, general manager Ryan Pace said Saturday.

The first-round draft pick will start the season on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will be sidelined for at least the first six games. After six games, the Bears have until after their 11th game to activate him or shut him down for the year. Pace said it's possible that White could miss the entire season.

Drafted 7th overall this last spring, many thought he could be better than Amari Cooper. Cooper has been killing it in camp though according to the internet.

Begs the question if the preseason serves any meaningful purpose given the amount of regular season games for starters lost due to preseason injuries. $$$$ talks.

White's been hurt since training camp started. Otherwise he couldn't go on the PUP. It wasn't preseason.

That makes top two ten picks with serious injuries now. Then Gurley was drafted with a serious injury coming out. What a shame...

That's gonna hurt CHI. No Marshall and now White. That's bad news.

OK but still doesn't negate my question.

The fact is, training camp/preseason injuries are up since the new CBA went into effect and severly limited both the number and physicality of the OTAs that teams could have in the offseason, a result of the fact that not all athletes have the desire or self control to stay in peak physical condition on their own during the offseason. The dedicated ones have no problems, save for a few flukes that no one can control.
