Andre Johnson’s Texans career is all but over.

The team has given the 12-year receiver’s agent, Kennard McGuire, permission to seek a trade, and if a deal cannot be worked out, Johnson will be cut and free to negotiate with any team.

The Texans wanted Johnson, who will turn 34 in July and will be a Hall of Fame candidate when his career is over, to take a reduced role next season, and he declined, according to people familiar with the situation, who also disclosed the two sides never discussed his contract. Rather than accept the reduced role, Johnson asked to be traded or cut.

Johnson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 draft, is ninth in NFL history in receptions with 1,012 and has 13,597 receiving yards and 64 touchdowns.

Saying he would have a smaller role moving forward. He asked to be cut, they told him to find a trade partner.

Interesting option. He'd be hungry to play for a contender too.

He'd need to rework his contract. I like the guy but he's due $10.5 and $11 million over the next 2 seasons. We'd want something more cap friendly I'd think.

That is interesting. $5 million contract, he gets his ring. Fits right in with ADB intensity-wise. My hope for Fitz just bought a new jersey.

Tasty.

Absolutely agree. I would wait for him to be released. No way would I trade for his contract.

Andre Johnson is still a good WR, but no way would i take on that contract. Not to mention he has been injured almost every season the last few years. IMO he is probably worth closer to 6 or 7 million.

As McClain said, Andre Johnson's contract will be redone if he's traded. It's pretty safely assumed that he won't get that much money no matter who he plays for next season.

"If Kennard McGuire (his agent) finds a trade partner, contract will have 2 b redone."

Same is pretty much assumed for Brandon Marshall or Vincent Jackson if they get traded. I would love to take the gamble if the price is right and finally get that #1.

But he's not an elite receiver anymore. This isn't the Andre Johnson of 5 years ago we're talking about. Yes he's good, but let's not act like he's one of the best WRs in the NFL at this point in his career. He would be a great stopgap upgrade as a veteran receiver with size.

Elite is subjective, but that's fine. I still think he has the ability to be really good. He had a decent year last year with 85REC, 900 YDS & 3 TD's, but his previous year and the year before that? Dude has been a monster even just as recent as the year the Hawks won the Superbowl.

Age is definitely an issue and his low # of TD's/red zone presence needs to be considered.

The thing that excites me about AJ is his ability to block on the outside. Our running game and passing game would both improve if we landed Johnson in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I mean it when I say he would be a great upgrade. He is a fantastic receiver. He's just lost a step from where he was 5 years ago is all I'm saying. He's in that Larry Fitzgerald category: Still really good, but definitely past their career peak.

No doubt, and yeah, he's historically at the point where most people begin or already are trending downwards in terms of their career. Would really love to see the passing game take the next step, especially with the continuing uncertainty with Lynch.

Johnson is 33 but still has plenty left, he would be a perfect fit. I would easily give up a 4th to get him for 2 Years 14 mil or 3 year 21 mil

Ftizgerald (31y) just got 2 year 22 mil
Vincent Jackson (32y) has 2 years 24mil onhis current contract
Reggie Wayne (36y) just played the last 2 year for $14mil
Brandon Marshall (30y) has 3 years 30 mil left on his contract

Johnson would be a great Vet for Wilson and I have no doubt playing for a contender will get Johnson motivated to preform at an elite level.

He would instantly be our #1 target and he would have reduce numbers from previous years but he would be "The Guy" here and I think it is a win-win for him and the Seahawks. Let's make the numbers work.:179422:

I follow the Texans a lil bit and I absolutely love AJ.
IMHO he's slowing down a tad and I worry how much he has left in the tank. Dude is a top notch man IMO also.
I think he wants to "win one". Stating the obvious.
Having said that, I think he could contribute and IF the price was right Id be happy to get him. He has been a true team player up to this point, sure some may argue that, now that he's looking to be traded but I'm talking historicity.

We should not pay what he has coming on the old deal though.

Edit: he would also be an incredible mentor to our young guns.

True. AJ may not demand double coverage, but at least he can beat single coverage for sure at this stage of his career. He is open even when CBs are hanging on him.

He might not have deep ability anymore or speed, but he might just prove me wrong with a elite QB like Wilson throwing him the ball deep. Texans QBs had no arm. He could possibly get 1300 yards & 12 TDs with Russ.

NFL players have him at 21 in the top 100 for 2014,I tend to agree with the NFL players instead of regular people. He is a sure thing as far as being better than all of our WRs. Great route runner ! At that size too :)

Interesting to see how things turn out for AJ. Hope the best for him. Marshall is still hands down the most complete WR in the NFL though, but Johnson is right there on his heels. I say this cause Marshall went crazy on our defense, while AJ did just OK...but that also could be bad QB play.

Last game he played in he went for 134 on 10 catches and a TD. Now he's obviously lost a step but in our offense with our running game, I would love to get this guy. He's been a super productive player his whole career, and has never had a QB. Also is a great guy in the community, not sure he's as good as Marshell or Jackson but he's not far behind and would potentially be cheaper. I'm officially all in on Andre Johnson (that doesnt sound good does it)
