This opens the door for guys with Baseball teams and Basketball team that want to own a NFL team to do so, guys with billions are not just around to buy stuff like the Millionaires of old. NFL fishing for owners with deep pockets, funny how this came about right after Pauls death. and was such a sticking point for the Rams owner when he purchased them owning the Nuggets and the Ave's.

Was that a recent policy? Allen purchased the Seahawks while owned the Trailblazers. Or was the policy something that could be overridden by a vote of the owners?

Pauls situation was special because of the Seahawks and worked some kind of deal, owners also hated Behring, he was trying to be Al Davis without the resume, and we know how the NFL felt about Al's tactics.

Kroenke was forced to give up his control of the Ave's and Nuggets to get the Rams, the competing bid held the leagues feet to the fire over it.

Paul was never as active as he was before with the Blazers after he purchased the Seahawks also. He did upgrade the Rose Garden and got some kind of lease agreement etc after but nothing like he was initially.

The NFL also has prohibited cross-ownership of majority interest in teams in other major American sports. Some owners, such as Stan Kroenke of the St. Louis Rams and Malcolm Glazer of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, own teams in the English Premier League, but Kroenke was forced to cede control of the Colorado Avalanche (NHL) and Denver Nuggets (NBA) to his son when he took over the Rams in 2010.

However, that rule was also tweaked back in 1997. Now, an NFL owner can own teams in other sports if those teams are in the same city as the NFL franchise they own or in a city where there is no NFL team. Allen, for example, also owns the Portland Trail Blazers.

Maybe Chris Hanson will buy the Seahawks now that he's been thoroughly double-crossed by the City of Seattle in his efforts to bring basketball back, all because they want to continue throwing good money after bad at the Key. That's assuming the team ends up getting sold.

I’m not sure that this is all that new. Tom Benson owned both the Saints and Pelicans, and now his widow Gayle ownes the Pelicans/Saints/and Falcons.

Sorry about the loss of Paul Allen. A good owner is a horrible thing to lose.

This specific change allows ownership in different leagues in different markets.

For example, Kroenke could have owned the Clippers and Kings along with the Rams, but wasn't allowed to own officially own the Avalanche and Nuggets.

Except in cities where the NFL has no competition, such as Paul Allen owning the Blazers. For exampe, an NFL owner could own the San Antonio Spurs.
