  • The real test of the uniform is not how it looks as a concept, but how it looks on a sweaty 350 pound man covered in grass stains.

    From danny oneil's chat...

-I don't know when they will be announced.

-I have heard that there will be new uniforms.

    -That's about it.

-A fellow on Twitter today who sounded very much like he knew what he was talking about indicated the helmets will remain blue.

-I've heard that the uniforms will be different, but not dramatically different. In effect, that the changed from silver helmets to the current blue was much more dramatic than the change that is expected this time.

  • The Seahawks' colours actually have meaning, unlike a lot of teams. The blue represents water, the green represents forest, and the silver represents salmon. The colours affirm the team's PNW ties.

I like the current uniforms well enough, but we need to bring back the silver.

  • Yeah I have to say I am all for bringing back the silver as long as it isn't that flat, grey from the 70's/80's. My concept is close to what I wouldn't mind seeing...Make the blue a deep blue, the green a deep green, put that bird prominently back on the sleeves (a nice nod to yester-year) and I think we could have some sweet uniforms.

We need a seahawk totem pole outside of c-link. I wonder if we could even do that? that would be cool to pay tribute to the native american culture in this area seahawk style.

Agree - not a fan of navy blue overall but if it was paired with our current Seahawk Blue helmet that would be a good combo.

Nothing would make me laugh harder then if Tarvaris Jackson starts every game next season while wearing virtually the same jersey as we've had, with nothing different but a Nike swoosh.

The Seahawk is already done much in a totem style, which does pay tribute to the area and it should. Seattle itself was named after a Chief.

I'm not talking about adding something major. Maybe the stripe down the pants or any stripes at all could be done totem style. If we're wanting to set our unis apart from the rest of the league that would be a great way to pay tribute to the city/chief/native influence of the area and I absolutely think it could be done in a subtle manner.

  • Basically what you do is take the stripe down the pants and replace it with a stripe full of repeated styles of Totem Seahawks. The stripe would still be there....it would just be better. Obviously leave the totem head figure out so it can remain a stripe.

Part of what makes those Nike concept things look cool is the fact they mimic a photo with a foggy background and ridiculously low light. They can be really vague with colors that way.

It's kinda like the political poles that have some guy running against an anonymous Republican or Democrat, as opposed to running against someone specific. It might be good for the image, but the reality is far less attractive.

Maybe a whole new name, and everything. We could be like the Browns and name the team after our owner.

    The Seattle Allens.

The logo would be a giant $, with Seattle written "$eattle." We could probably even incorporate Allen wrenches somehow. I am a freakin' genius.

This has got to be the 50th multi-page thread of people pontificating on all the crazy possibilities and posting their goofy looking project runway auditions. So much hub-hub. And in the end, I'm betting all that changes is things like striping and trim effects.

  • calm down everyone...

Anyway: I suspected at the time — and have been saying ever since — that Nike “changing the NFL jersey dramatically” would mostly be about tailoring and fabrication, not about graphics. And now the NFL has confirmed that. Here’s the key passage from that article, in a quote from NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy:

Logos are controlled by teams and the NFL. That will not change. Teams have to apply to league to make changes to logos and colors. We anticipate new uniform technology (i.e., performance-driven, lighter materials). That’s what Nike’s [Charlie] Denson was referring to in his interview in 2010 regarding changes.

  • Anyone who thought that switching to Nike meant crazy insane-o Oregon style uni's clearly doesn't understand how the NFL works. It's a league that's made it's way based off history, long time fans, and identifiable team brands. It's not a university trying to entice 17 year old's to come play in it's super cool looking duds.

  • Aaaand here's another article, published today, regarding this very topic. With a quote specifically about us, no less.

The Seahawks were the first team to hold discussions with Nike. Team president Peter McLoughlin said last summer that the Seahawks will be making innovative uniform changes for 2012.

Again, could be material change, but who knows? We don't have the hundred year history to defend like some of these other hideous teams (photo-realistic Bears logo, semi-offensive Redskins logo, the Browns). We could be one of those teams willing to go further than others.

FANTASTIC! As long as we kill the current color scheme I'll be happy with anything, especially with silver helmets and pants. You should pitch this to Nike and the Hawks!

Take out the green and the Seahawk sleeve and you have a winner.

  • To supplement my previous post, here's the interview with Peter McLoughlin that articles keep quoting. He confirms that the logo will remain the same, but doesn't comment on (avoids?) the colors, and confirms that a lot of what we're calling jersey technology--materials and such--will change.

  • Regarding the logo, and a switch from the Native American angle. How about a real artist coming up with a menacing looking Hawk. Shouldn't be that difficult.

Why does the logo have to look like a totem pole creature?

  • I love the Seahawk logo. It's truly unique in an NFL where half the teams it seems are named after birds. It speaks to the region's heritage and history and has enough attitude to get the point across. I actually prefer the original logo for its authentic design. Why do we need to look like every other team with a bird for a mascot?

  • Yeah I'd hate it if they went farther away from the original logo. Like NCHawk said, its original and has meaning.

  • If our logo was largely unpopular with the fans, or just a weird/bad logo (like old Tampa/NE/Denver), I could see making a major adjustment during this redesign. But, I'd wager that our logo is pretty popular among Seahawks fans. I'm not going to make a poll or anything, but I bet 80% of fans like the helmet logo how it is, and wouldn't prefer any major change.

I freakin love uniform threads, btw. I need to set up my phone to remind me every time there's a new post in this thread.
