Ok maybe not actually fire him, but he deserves a lot of criticism for the way the defense is playing this year.

How could a defense from being an all time best, fall to being one of the worst in the NFL without a major overhaul?? Yes we lost a couple important pieces, but this defense has simply not been coached well this season.

Its unbelievable that in all of our loses, the opponents have had almost the exact game plan, which is run to setup the pass action and dump the ball to receivers/TEs for 3-4 yards and set up 3rd and short for most of the game. This defense absolutely isn't adjusting to anything the opponents do, keep play stupid zones, no blitzing, no stunts or exotic schemes. Its like if one play works on that day, the opponents keep running that play over and over again for the rest of the game and we don't do a thing about it.

As much as Bevell is criticized, Quinn deserves it too, even with much more talent to work with than what Bevell has.

I don't know what the hell is going on with the coaching this year!

Define one of the worst.

The amount of injuries on D has nothing to do with Quinn, and everything to do with how poorly they are playing.

Hmmmm. We lost 3 major contributors on the defensive line from last year. Our defensive line depth issues are showing. Avril is playing 65% of snaps and Bennett is playing more than 80%. Avril played around 50% last year and Bennett played 58%.

Lost our MLB - requiring our SLB to change positions.

We lost not 1 but 3 corners. We have a 5th stringer starting.

it is really tough to be aggresive with man coverages when you know Thomas has to help Burley. That's why we have been playing a lot of zone.

This year's defense will look and play a lot like 2012 except that our corner depth is ravaged.

He sucks. How could he let Clemons, Red Bryant, Thurmond, Browner and McDonald go? Oh that's right..... It's the salary cap that got us.

TDOTSEAHAWK, I agree with the lack of depth on our DL. I was just looking at the roster on seahawks.com. So we have 8 guys that are listed at DE/DT. Only one is out right now -> Jordan Hill. So that leaves 7 guys to rotate. I don't remember but maybe you do. How many did we rotate last year on DL?

Might be they built the team this year with not enough depth at DL...

'nuff said. We are fortunate to have Quinn and his task, as outlined in your post, is far from an easy one. Especially with the inefficiency of this offense. Forget about firing him and let's just hope he doesn't bolt.

Marsh is also out; he was just put on IR. Jesse Williams has yet to play due to injuries the last two years.

What we have lost is nothing compared to what the 49ers are dealing with.. Without All-pro everywhere on defense, but they still are playing decent ( much better than our crap) and holding their ground. Now imagine what we would be if we had lost Sherm, ET, Wagner, Mebane, and a couple others.

But coming back to the topic, its not about performance, its the vanilla schemes. Have you noticed any change from play to play in the last 6 games?? Its all the same base form defense every single play, giving up the same damn play over and over again.

Well our defense has always been about superior players in simple schemes taking care of there assignment and then daring the opponent to do something against it. I dont see us changing anything but rather trying to do the best we can to make it untill we are healthy again.

I don't know that I blame Quinn. You put guys in that are supposed to be able to rush the passer (like Avril) and they're terrible. So when you can't generate pressure with your down lineman you start calling blitzes, which is what Quinn has done.

What I don't know is whether he has started to see if guys deeper on the roster can rush the passer. Can Brock Coyle or Kevin Pierre-Louis rush the passer as ends on 3rd and long? Throw them in and let's see. Maybe Tharold Simon if he gets his head on straight. Maybe Cassius Marsh. Keep throwing guys out there until one of them proves they can rush the passer, cause the guys they are using (Avril, Bennett, et al) aren't doing Jack.

It's gotten to the point where it feels like it is going to take a miracle to allow this team to finish the job on a sack or turnover. Just no ability to make the impact plays, so unlike last year. It's sad and hard to watch

Pretty soon there will be a Fire Pete Carroll and John Schneider thread. Only on this board would it happen.

Didn't the 49ers just get torched for 42 points and 400 yards though?
Not the best example. We held the Rams to under 300 yards (less than they put up against SF), and just 120 yards in the second half up until the fake punt .
