I think Pete was rewarding his players. Allowing to visit with family as so many of them are from the east coast.
Yup, JS talked about it in an interview yesterday on KIRO's pregame show. Said it was all about rest and recovery, and how they thought the players don't get the rest they need when they need it on the flight.Shows how the FO is innovative in all aspects of the game.

It makes sense to do it that way. They wouldnt be home until, what?, 4 or 5am? Might as well just stay there and fly back in the morning/afternoon

You can get the film stuff started on the flight back, they use Laptops etc to get a jump on things, Dallas played Sunday so that coaches film is already available. Make the flight go faster as well.
