I was reading ESPN's predictions for the season and noticed not one person picked Pete to win COY.

Coming off a Superbowl winning season where he didn't win, what will it take for he to win that award?

Do we need more wins that last year or do we just need to win in blowout fashion against teams like the Packers, Broncos, , Redskins, and 49ers?

Seems it would be a coach that took a 2 and 14 team to the playoffs type these days, Pete was more in the running our first two years than he has been lately.

It's the single most idiotic vote in the league. Pete has more control than any other head coach in the league, (How many other coaches have picked their own GM and have final say over everything? Exactly.) and therefore deserves the most credit for what has been built here, but these clowns voting only care about the shiny "oooh, increased number of wins by double digits in his first year" stat.

Morons.

At least 14-2 without any other team improving by 5 wins (a 9-7 Gus Bradley would get it over a 13-3 Pete Carroll).

In almost every sport it is basically the most improved team of any given year. If there was a Coach/Executive of the past 5 years award - both go to PC/JS.

It needs to be named "The annual worst to first award".

At least call it what it really is.

2 Things.

1) Im in complete agreement that they just need to change COY award to Most Improved Team, or MIT. Because thats what it is.

2) Mike Sando picked the Hawks to win the Super Bowl, and he is without a doubt the smartest guy on that staff. (Please note, others chose the Seahawks as well, but that doesnt matter. And even though Sando used to write the NFCW blog and lives in Seattle, he is actually an Oakland fan. But the man does his homework more then anyone else there, and thats a fact)

No that award should go to the salary cap.

He either has to lead the team to an undefeated season with another blowout Super Bowl victory, or he has to overcome some event and still lead the team to the Super Bowl (voters love a sob story it seems).

He and John both should have already gotten COY and EOY, but oh well.

If his location was Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Philly or KC they probably would have.

I think it would take a undefeated season ending in a Super Bowl victory.
I don't really think Pete cares as long as he gets to hoist the Lombardi at the end of the year. That is the REAL coach of the year award!

He and JS will never win any of those awards as long as we are a winning team and taking home Lombardi(s).

Isn't coach of the year given before playoffs?

The reward will always go to a coach who turned a turd into a contender in one season's time. PC's rise was gradual. Impressive, but gradual.

Worthless award.

Wayne Fontes
Ray Rhoades
Dom Capers
Dick Jauron
Jim Haslett
Ron Rivera

No Marv Levy. No Chuck Knoll. Uh huh

Basketball is worse

Mike Schuler
Don Chaney
Del Harris
Larry Bird
Avery Johnson
Sam Mitchell
Mike Brown
Byron Scott

No Jerry Sloan.

Interestingly enough though, two Seahawks have one this award. Jack Patera in 1978 and Chuck Knox in 1984.

Who wants an award that has been given for throwing a season for a better draft pick?

What has shocks me is that they aren't even in the running when these highly coveted awards are doled out.

Pete is too busy being coach of the decade for that puny award.

Belichick has won the award three times, and ironically none of those three were from the Pats breakout season in 2001 (he lost the award that year to... Dick Jauron). So there is precedent for the award actually acknowledging great coaching.

Something tells me that Pete never gets the award though. Belichick had the mystique of being an evil genius, whereas Pete has the perception of a goofy rah-rah guy who "lucked" into drafting an all-time great roster. It's incredibly stupid of course, but voters won't realize how stupid they are until it's too late.
