OT: Hope our posters from the Bay Area are all OK

My parents and sister live up there. They had a huge 6.0 quake overnight about 27 miles north of the San Fran/Oakland/Berkeley area.

Hope all our '9ers posters and Hawks fans living in the area are OK.

Rumor is that it was caused by all the 49er fans jumping off the bandwagon at once.

I'm surprised at the damage I've heard about from a 6.0, in CA... They've been seismic-hardening for a very long time. When I lived near San Diego, I soon figured out that "if it isn't a 5, it isn't even an earthquake". 6.0 is only 10 times that much energy. It must have been shallow, or mostly side-to-side motion, or something.

It woke me up in the east bay. Nothing fell. The real damage was in Napa.

Just happened to be spending the weekend in San Jose. I woke up 5 minutes before it happened, so i was half asleep and felt it. None of the other 4 people in the house even knew about it. No damage at all. About an hour and a half southwest of Napa.

A belated thank-you for the well-wishes, guys. Here immediately around SF it was enough to startle you awake and shake you pretty hard, but nothing too dangerous. Napa was hit way harder, though...

Mostly damaged older buildings. There are quite a few in the napa area.
