A while ago I predicted Wilson would accept a very reasonable deal, say $16 or $18 million with the Seahawks but they'd compensate him on the side with say a huge endorsement deal from Microsoft.

Now, he's in their ads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWTdCXD9Z88

My prediction still stands

While I don't think it works quite that way, it is good to see the kid cash in on what will be a brief career. Even if he plays here for 10-15 years, he'll have a lot of life left to live when he hangs up his cleats. Whatever else, he's being smart and cashing in while he can. Plus, of course, there is always the possibility of the unthinkable for him.

I don't mind seeing Seahawks hawking stuff. Its all part of the game.

While this type of deal might sound plausible, the potential consequences for both the club (NFL) and the player(NFLPA) make it a non starter. If Russell can park another Lombardi next the that shiny new one already sitting on his mantel, in the next year or two he will get his 25 Million from the Hawks and probably the same, or more, in endorsements per. And he would be worth every cent he earns.

The commercial is a good one and every time I hear him say "absurd", I have a chuckle.

The Seahawks business and payroll have nothing to do with Microsoft endorsements.

Honestly, I'm getting a little tired of that add, kinda like eating too many sweets.

The add has been running for awhile. Welcome to the party.

And it's completely seperate from his contract, otherwise it's known as collusion and the organization would get penalized grossly if they got caught. Not worth it.

Your prediction was for them to break the rules?

Cartire is right on. There are rules for this sort of thing.

https://www.nflplayers.com/About-us/Par ... nt-Policy/

All partnerships and endorsements must adhere to the following baseline requirements:

Must be consistent with the NFLPA’s philosophy, mission, vision, and values;
Partnerships and endorsements shall not drive the NFLPA's agenda or priorities;
Must not give unfair advantage to, or cause discrimination against, any sectors of the community;

To summarize, all compensation a player receives from endorsements must be declared to the NFLPA. The NFLPA has a stated interest to insure that all players get the most favorable contract terms possible. The scenario outlined by the OP is forbidden and they can block Wilson from any compensation from Microsoft.

Secondly, Wilson can't enter into any endorsement deal with a person who has a role in negotiating another players contract. This means Paul Allen can't have any say in the endorsement terms Wilson received from Microsoft without notification and approval by the NFLPA.

Paul Allen will leave the Seahawks to Russell Wilson in his will :th2thumbs:

Would it be legal for the owner of a team to be it's starting Quarterback? And could he sign a contract for $1 a year in order to keep re-signing our own valuable players?

No the team was promised to me. Paul wanted to show me some gratitude for stealing the original Windows from apple. God it feels good to finally tell my secret.

The funny thing is that he is doing Surface Pro 2 commercials, which no one would buy if they had any tech knowledge since the Surface Pro 3 has already been announced and blows it out of the water.

All the pro devices rock. Any tech guy would tell you that. Even version 1 had the USB 3.0 (that works great with a 3.0 hub by Pluggable BTW) A Surface 2 Pro will cost less and is available now.
I have the original RT, Pro and a Pro 2 and I am in no hurry to buy a 3.

Same. It's why I no longer follow him on Twitter. Just because football's on Sunday doesn't mean I want to feel like I'm in church.

Russ is who he is and it's awesome. He's going to be the face of Seattle sports and as big as Griffey on a national level.

And how far out of your way did you go to find that picture and make this post? Much ado about nothing. I doubt Russell Wilson has ever touched that particular tablet and that stuff was entered by the people making the commercial.

Besides, IIRC, NFL teams use Ipads.

I hate the Windows Surface commercials. The music, and the testimonial style is like fingernails on a blackboard for me. Putting Russell Wilson in one is someone's idea of a perverse form of torture.
