On a quarter-by-quarter basis. It's not exact, due to OT periods, but roughly:

Week 1 vs. Carolina = shut out Q1, Q3, Q4
Week 2 vs. San Francisco = Q1, Q2, Q4
Week 3 vs. Jacksonville = Q1, Q2
Week 4 vs. Houston = Q1,Q3, Q4, (+OT)
Week 5 vs. Indianapolis = None
Week 6 vs. Tennessee = Q3
Week 7 vs. Arizona = Q1
Week 8 vs. St. Louis = Q2
Week 9 vs. Tampa = Q1, Q4, (+OT)
Week 10 vs. Atlanta = Q1, Q4
Week 11 vs. Minnesota = Q3
Week 12 = BYE
Week 13 vs. New Orleans = Q1, Q3, Q4
Week 14 vs. San Francisco = Q3
Week 15 vs. New York = Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4
Week 16 vs. Arizona = Q1
Week 17 vs. St. Louis = Q1, Q2
Wild Card Round = Bye
Divisional Playoff Round vs. New Orleans = Q1, Q2, Q3
NFC Championship vs. San Francisco = Q4
Super Bowl vs. Denver = Q1, Q2, Q4

Total quarters shut out = 37 + OT ~38

Total quarters in the season = 76 + OT ~77

Not my original post, but an interesting perspective.

wow, that's cool I wish I could find the stats, but it was mentioned that Seattle was #1 in 4 (possibly 5 defensive stats) Yards, Points allowed, Turnovers, + something else, in any case they mentioned that Seattle was the first team SINCE 1970ish when the Purple people eaters accomplished that feat..

That's remarkable that the 2000 Ravens and 1985 Bears weren't able to accomplish that. If anyone could find that I'd like to know the other category (ies) John Clayton remarked that Yards, Points Allowed and Turnovers were accomplished by the Bears (not Ravens) but that extra #1 ranking eluded them.

Yards per play, possibly? Chicago was only 4th that year.

It would be interesting to see how other teams (9er's in particular) fared this season compared to us...

Hint, hint. ;)

In the Reddit link above, a 49er fan mentions that there were 33 shutout quarters for SF. If that's true, that's over one full game more than them.

I know there's been a lot of talk and comparison to the 2000 Raven's team, so I tallied up their scoreless quarters and calculated a whopping 53 out of 80, or 66%. That was a pretty darn good D.

Also, the 1985 Bears had 46 scoreless out of 76, or 60%.

Didn't the Ravens only give up something like 10 pts a game that year?

This Seahawks team is a lot better than the Ravens 2000 team. This Seahawks defense isn't as great as that 2000 Ravens defense. Still got us our super bowl, so that will always be good for me. How about the team try to do something they couldn't and repeat.

Who cares about what player, position, or team is the best. Lets write our own history.
