I know we would have kicked either way....

But what did it say to Denver and the rest of the country that we intentionally deferred to the best offense in the history of the game? I personally think that the fact that we got to make that subtle statement right up front was huge.

Brass cajones, our Pete Carroll has.

Pete said they ALWAYS defer when they win the toss.

And usually Denver does the same. I read that on our Denver question discussion with the Denver Bronco fans and Hawkscanner. Hmmm...did we forget to tell them about the Legion of Boom??? I dont recall.

Yes, I know they always do. But they don't always play an historically good (by the numbers) offense. I also doubt Denver knows they always do. Winning the coin flip and then saying, "Hey Manning.... go ahead and have the ball first" probably isn't something that Denver has heard from many other teams this year.

It said "We don't care about what you do or who you are. We'll play how we always play, and you have to beat us."

Pete always deferred at USC too. In fact, I was surprised in his first year at Seattle because he often did not do so. The D wasn't where he wanted it to be yet, I guess.

I'm pretty sure Denver always accepts the ball.

In fact, Pete said the only assured thing in the Bowl was that we would kick off because Denver always accepts and we always defer.

We played New Orleans and although they didn't put up the same numbers, they also played MUCH better defenses...Carolina (#2) Twice, Niners (#3) & Seahawks (#1) Just to name a few. Honestly I think the Saints offense was nearly as good.

Super Bowl Sunday, someone said to me that the coin toss was going to be tails and I just shrugged and said good because as visitor we will call tails and defer and the butt kicking will begin.

Winning and deferring was the first time my head nearly hit the ceiling fan. Not only are we the top D, but we've been a 2nd half team and IIRC, more points are scored in the 3rd qtr than any other in SB history. It was an absolute no brainer, really...especially with a young QB. Let him feel the crowd, "the moment" before sticking him out there. I literally felt that coin toss would be pivotal and also felt had Denver won, even though they usually take the ball, would likely defer to put our O on the field first, and their O on the field to start the 3rd.
