Been thinking more about this the last couple of days, especially considering some of the articles I've seen online about this being Pete's chance to prove people wrong.

Pete hasn't drastically changed since he was first hired as the Jets' head coach. Sure, he's evolved, matured and so on. He used a process of self-discovery to better organize and codify who he is as a coach so that he could really get his message across. But the real heart and soul of Pete and the way he approaches coaching is the same: help guys find what they do well, work to enable them to be the best they can be, stay positive and enthusiastic, compete like crazy and have fun. Not only did that not work as well before he went to USC/Seattle, people acted like there was something wrong with him. Heck, there are still doubters out there.

The problem wasn't Pete. The "problem" was that people didn't understand him. They couldn't get past the stereotype of what a coach should be and how he should do things. Owners didn't fully support him and as a result some players didn't completely buy in. And guys like Warren Sapp said Pete could never succeed and he was "a joke."

I am so happy for Pete right now. He's worked his tail off to get where he is today. People are finally realizing that he really is a great coach--at any level of football. He deserves this season. He deserves a Lombardi.

Go get it, Pete! Fight On and Go Hawks!
