Something similar happens in World Soccer. England beat Spain (who were the World Cup holders) and we went on some long unbeaten run until eventually we lost to Montenegro and this meant Montenegro were effectively the current "Champions".

The only team to have it at the end of the regular season and then win throughout the playoffs and Superbowl was the 01 Patriots.

Never heard of this before. What a random, goofy fun thing! As is typical of the Hawks, we've barely had a sniff of the thing, even though it's basically "luck".
