  • I haven't seen it in years and years. Is that old era, better left in the past?

It was pretty cool back in the day.

  • It was retired because people were sick and tired of having to exercise during games. Was fun at the time, but its time has passed.

I believe this video came out in anticipation of what turned out to be the most disappointing season I can remember. Yep it was the Win 2 (yay!) Lose 2 (awww) Win 2 (Yah, we're at 4-2) Lose 2 (Dammit, back to .500) all the way to 8-8 season.

    Ahh, memories.

  • The wave died as soon as people got smart and figured out its better for everyone to stand up and yell when the D is on the field. They also realized its dumb to make a lot of noise when the O is on the field.

I thought it died because people got too fuggen drunk to synchronize the motion and it wound up as "The Blue Wobble-lean-sink-back-into-your-seat-whenever"

  • I can just remember having a lap full of hot dogs and beer and eventually saying "screw this", and just lazily raising my arms instead of actually standing up. It was way worse than a Catholic wedding... And everybody hates those. Thus it's demise...

  • The 49ers still do the wave!

Yea, we know Dan - their fans are indeed the worst...

"By Dan Bickley, columnist azcentral sports Sun Oct 13, 2013 9:38 PM

The 49ers are a good football team. That was clear in the fourth quarter of their 32-20 victory on Sunday, when they grounded and pounded the Cardinals into submission.

But their fans are the worst.

In one of the more classless displays you’ll ever see at a football game, fans at Candlestick Park repeatedly did the wave as Calais Campbell lay motionless on the ground.

A stretcher was on the field. A transport cart was nearby. Players huddled in prayer.

And joyous 49ers fans kept doing the wave.

It was so embarrassing that someone made hush noises over the public-address system. Even 49ers players urged their fans to stop the show of jubilation, to show a little respect for a fallen colleague.

And they kept doing the wave.

The Lombardi Trophy is up for grabs. But 49ers fans have already clinched their own dubious title.

    “That was classless, (continued) ................

  • When the NFL targetted us for having a employee acting as a cheerleader and banned Bill from having free access to run around the stadium is when it basically died. There were efforts during games after they stopped him from being our leader of disruption but they never had the same impact and died quickly. Bill would also get the cross field Go / Seahawks chant going. Considering his size and the size of the Kingdome the run around he did getting the Wave going was pretty impressive.

Hah! You're right. And I don't remember any other teams making those types of videos after that either. I guess between the Bears and us, we pretty much killed the concept (thank god...)

Wait, that really happened?! I didn't know that. Really, NFL? That's how you treat teams who are trying like hell to get fans to love your product even more than they already do? Srsly? Sigh.

  • I liked the wave when it was just Husky Stadium and then the Kingdome. But then the rest of the country copied it and it got played out.
To make matters worse, it was copied by fans attending the World Cup in Mexico in 1986, which made it go world wide, and the rest of the world dubbed it "The Mexican Wave", as if Mexico invented it. grrrrrr.....

OMG!!!! Bwhahahahaa.... that's TOO good. I had no idea that was out there. I take everything back about the Hawks and Bears killing the idea of team videos. Gotta say though, even though the chorus is absurd (Do you know how to Ram it?), the lyrics and rapping aren't THAT bad, at least for NFL players doing the rapping. Make sure y'all watch that video, you will not be disappointed!

I'd forgotten about this one too, but as soon as heard the tune, it came rushing back. I wish it hadn't, frankly. But check out the hip-hop stylings of Howie Long and the late, great Todd Christensen.

  • The wave is horrible. Truly an abomination. Nothing worse than trying to watch the game and be into the game than having some jack-wad in front of you turn abound and try to get a wave going. Those overgrown wannabe male cheerleaders missed half the good plays trying to get that stupid wave started. Just be loud when you're supposed to be loud, be quiet when you're supposed to be quiet and react naturally every other time. I LOVE how Seahawk crowds are now. Very smart football fans...

    PS the wave is lame.

This response would be much better in the shack but, you crochety old stick in the mud, we developed our identity with Bill the Beerman and the wave and noise. We picked up our hated reputation from those early days and honed it to what it is today. The wave was a fad, so were Puka Shells, Spandex both for good and bad depending on who's body they were on and Lava Lamps, and Black lights and posters. We have moved on but learned a lot about cohesive crowd noise and it's effect as a fan base.
