  • If I have to watch McQuistan try to play this position for one more game, I'm going to lose it. He is worse than the 7th round rookie on the other side.

How can we not have a backup for Okung who has actually played the position before???

  • I agree. We are winning in spite of our o-line play, not because of it.

  • I'd welcome Gate 68 back. Omiyale can't be worse than poor overmatched McQuistan.

  • It's funny that nobody heard Gruden say that good to great Oline play is pretty rare in the NFL.
And then of course the other cat said...'What about the Broncos?'
He had a point, they are playing with back up tackles.
But...The point is you can't just go out and find better guys that aren't playing somewhere else.
I'm sure Pete and John have been looking.
    But 'who' for example?

Lets be rational here. There is some "ok" talent here. Maybe sign a guy or two, doesnt have to be from this list. Maybe we trade but this whole end of the world attitude is annoying.

  • Monroe was literally being shopped by the Jags (you know, our friendly trading partner?) and we stupidly overlooked it.

If we end up missing a SB this year because of the tackles, I am going to blame FO for missing out on a fire sale for a top 15 OL.

Yeah salary cap, whatever. He was a FA end of the year, a rental but worth it and frankly in a year you are shooting to win it all you don't pinch pennies. You rob from tomorrow to win today. Sure it is a risk but the other side is to end up like the Mariners always trying to keep yourself good for tomorrow but never ever winning now. (And not being good tomorrow either).

Good teams get bad. That is why you sometimes have to go all in. I am really pissed we missed out on that.

It's worth pointing out the obvious here, which is that these are all tackles who are currently available while guys like Bailey and McQuistan are getting NFL starts. If we want an upgrade we would be more likely to find one via trade.

  • With all the rocks the front office looks under, you dont think they are convinced these are the best that are available?

On the other hand there is still a day or 2 left to make trades.. But I think we have to scheme our way out of this, not acquire a new player who hasnt played with the other guys and doesnt know the offense.

The Broncos do NOT have a great OL.

They have an experienced legend at QB who gets the ball out quickly to open receivers, and has been making average to subpar O-lines look good for over a decade.

  • Count to two when Peyton takes the snap and it is usually out of his hands and hitting an open receiver. He gets the ball off so quickly that he masks an average or subpar line. Not sure what exactly allows him to do this, but we could use some of that.

Mentioned this in another thread. Peyton is good at getting it out quickly but behind our line, he'd have taken quite a few more hits by now and probably be nursing a broken everything on the sidelines.

RW has masked how terrible this line is all season long but Long and Quinn didn't let him use his legs tonight.

  • Gaither? The only reason to bring him in would be to start a hot tub club with Okung. He won't play with pain either. If we are going to get somebody its got to come from a trade with a team going nowhere.
otherwise we need to do a better job of helping the guys we already have and address the line off season.

    This.

By the time Mr New Left/Right Tackle figures out what the hell he's supposed to be doing, you're somewhere around the Vikings game - the following week would be a bye, and after that Okung (and possibly Breno) are back on the field. So you've jettisoned another player from the 53, eaten further into whatever cap room is left and plugged a gap that's just about to close anyway. And you've the added bonus of having an extra lineman on board, twiddling his thumbs and earning more than League minimum in the process.

Yes, OP, your idea is sound, but the main issue is it should've happened after Okung went out in Week 2. Instead, the team chose to develop Bowie and trust in their depth. Like it or not, we're saddled with that now.

This. McQuistan isn't even athletic enough to so much as hold a guy. Get Bailey in, as has been said, in the unlikely scenario he's worse than McQuistan, at least he's got room to improve.
