  • TwistedHusky wrote:I am not a designer but I deal with consumer engagement and branding occasionally.

    A few things,

With a logo, oftentimes less is more.

Remember that the more detailed a logo is, the harder it is going to be to be clear and easy to read at different sizes. This is important when half your audience is using mobile at some point.

Also, it become easier to print, reproduce and most importantly - remember. Complex logos sometimes tend to not have the same ability to create a 'mental hook'.

You did a great job of limiting your colors, but there are a lot of shapes that are barely placeholders and don't seem to have a special significance to the brand. Also, negative space works and is often a better idea than trying to fill space, but remember that empty space is often a good thing too.

It looks like there is stuff there just to fill space (the second eye for instance).

It is a good start, it just needs someone to go in there and clean it up, simplify it and only keep the important elements.
    80/20 rule.

I agree on many levels, especially from a corporate perspective when it comes to brand but I think football forum communities are more forgiving with the added "stuff". In other words, that is not the logo I would present to a corporation that sells "green" technology. Good input all the same! Thank you!

  • I love it.

The green and gray lines that run parrallel in the center need some sort of accent. Possibly a tiny bit of shading around the border of the lines.

    Otherwise, post it now.

  • Also, if you note the "Screen cap" graphic I have been using to show what a new logo will look like in the NET environment, the colors are different than what we currently have. This means, it will take more than overwriting one graphic image with the same dimensions and file name. Background images will have to be added, new hex color values will have to be changed over...This will take a bit of time...

I just wanted to make that clear in case anyone thinks a new logo is as simple as "flicking a switch."

Nothing will take place without Mark's approval. Let's make that most clear. He is the current owner and "Landlord". If he approves of the new color scheme, then yes. Otherwise, this is just another useless post thread...(You know, like pehawks' threads for instance). ;)

This is really, really good, the part that bugs me is the green line needs to be bumped down a hair and the grey line down a hair as well. It's eye grabbing (in a bad way) seeing that razor thin lime green line at the top. Also, I'd tone down the brightness on that lime green. It looks hyper-bright to me. Maybe you could keep the green/grey lines where they are if you tone down the lime green a bit. The way it underlines "Seahawks" is too strong a contrast and burns the eyes a bit. Also, those green/grey lines are very thick on the version I'm quoting here. I thought you absolutely nailed the outer green/grey lines on the first one.

I think you are getting pretty close to perfection. Looks great.

With regards to the "12" version, it looks weird being skewed to the right. Could you try centering the 12 behind the main logo as a bit of a backdrop?

  • I like the idea of a new header.

    Comments:
    * The latest with the two eye seems out of balance on the page.
    * The emphasis seems to be on NET instead of the Seahawks. That seems backwards to me.

I do like the feathers in all designs.
Agree with other posters, "12" should be there somewhere.
Agree with the premise of less is more.

Good work though. I wish I had the apps to play.

What Kearly said about it being centered, but in addition having the 12 kind of ghosted in the backdrop.

  • Warning, monster graphic alert!

If we're going to talk about changing the 'header' of this site, I'd like to see some more ideas from people (anyone) that better utilizes the space available than we are doing now. I threw the following together in a couple of minutes to give an idea of what I mean. Also, being that the Seahawks have taken on a more 'matte' look with their current uniform, the next design iteration of .NET will also follow along with that theme. All of the 'shiny' effects and 'pinstripe' effects currently seen here will be gone.

One other note, the 'tagline' for Seahawks.NET is "The Voice of the 12th Man".

So, to add to the conversation...

  • Nice work, Anguish. I really like the style.

One thing to maybe consider is that ".NET" really is the main brand name of the site, it's what most people call the site, and that is one of the smallest parts of your graphic. I really think it should be more prominent, maybe find a way to switch the heirarchy of Seahawks and .NET and find a better balance?

  • I have to admit, Anguish, that you did an excellent job with your design!

Although ".NET" is the name of the site, I prefer seeing the name "SEAHAWKS" the larger of the two as that is the primary focus of the site. The message board is the means by which we discuss the Hawks.

However, there are only ten feathers around .net, may as well add two more and make it legit.

  • I like it.

Busy design but all the design elements make sense and mesh with the team design elements (hopefully no copyright issues there?)

Needs the 12 feathers of course.

But also it needs to make the .net more clear, because a lot of people don't even realize to put .net and if the whole reason to brand is to get people aware of the site you don't want half your traffic to inadvertently go to Seahawks.com because they never noticed the .net potion.

And I have seen plenty of .net, .co and other sites that have that problem. Especially if someone finds your site through something like a Google search, never reads the url and is trying to find you again you want them to clearly remember the name of your site from looking at the branding.

    Great job though.

  • To be fair, this logo has been on ice for quite some time. I've been working on a complete overhaul of .NET for quite some time, with all new software, and vector based designs. But, it seems that every season over the past couple of years, we have been met with hardware challenges that take precedence over the software challenges, and there're only so many free hours in a day to devote to this place.

  • Can we add the "I'm In" sign somewhere on the banner?

  • I think the two that incorporate the "12" are the two that I like best out of what I've seen so far. I do like the old design, but this is a new era and a new design to go along with that would be great

  • Just got back from my trip...Some crabbing in Oregon over Labor Day Weekend...I wanted to get back to this thread...Personally, I prefer Anguish's design over mine. Logo design has never been a strong suit with me nor vector/Illustration design. I think the site needs to have that logo, or at least a version of that logo that has that matte/vector look to it. My logo stuff looks dated and that's okay to admit. :)

My stuff was simply "okay" but I think Anguish's logo/ideas is more refined on the direction NET needs to be visually. Sometimes, when you've been so close to something, for as long as I have (like with the look and feel of NET for instance) it's best to have others take a fresher perspective and approach. So in that spirit, I humbly step aside and will be pulling for that vector logo and style to be incorporated...Hopefully as soon as this Sunday.

Well, unless someone else throws in their own idea, I think we have a winner.

Good thing the same guy that made the design will have to implement it. :) Go Anguish!

    Warning, monster graphic alert!
