And around the Seattle area? I need your help.

Rockhawk has suggested we make up a string about places to go and things to do in Seattle for our Seahawks.net members making their first trip to Seattle. He asked if I would consider kind of overseeing it. I told him I would be proud to. This would be a permanent string in a forum somewhere not yet decided. When a newbie asks we can send him to that place rather than making up something dozens of times a season.

So I was thinking I would get like a bakers dozen or so of places in and around the Seattle area.

First Rule: DON'T BOTHER WRITING/SENDING BOOKS! I'm thinking of a paragraph or two. Quick, easy, brief, concise, pleasant.

DO NOT POST THEM HERE! Send them to me via PM or email, both available via my profile. Anything posted here will be deleted out of hand.

Bear in mind I will want to take some basic stuff that everyone in Seattle knows about but our out of town friends don't. I've been a tourist to Seattle since the late 60s and have family there so know a little bit about the "highlights".

Please no smart assed or "tongue in cheek" stuff. We are going to be giving information to family members here. Lets treat them well. Anyone that feels they need to be a smart ass about it I guarantee you a top 5 spot on Sadhappy's Uranus list.

____________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________

Before we can get started I need some in general ideas from you. Like what subjects we should cover, who would perhaps like to talk about what? Things like that.

So for those things please make your comments here. I'm pretty excited about this and hope you all are too. After we get some basic ideers we can start doing the word parts.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Les

How about suggestions for places to stay, with an eye on ease of access to the game and places of other interest? Maybe including a primer for how to get around without a car (Sounder, light rail, etc).

Great idea and will be useful for me one day. As much Hawks related information as possible would be great. Maybe about the stadium like what section is best for loud fans, what for families etc. Best pubs to go pregame/postgame or to watch a game. Is there something Hawks(/Huskies) related in the city centre?

Tell people to venture outside of downtown Seattle and head to the Eastside to Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Issaquah, North Bend, and of course Snoqualmie and the Falls... It's so much more beautiful than downtown Seattle...Also, of course taking the Ferry to the Islands or across to Baindbridge Island is Beautiful... Downtown offers the underground tour, the Clink Tour, Pike Place, The Space Needle, The Water Front...Lot's of Casino's within a short distance of Seattle... Now I'm sounding like a Tour Guide or a Booking Agent.... Lot's of things to do and enjoy when traveling to Seattle to a Seahawks Game! :0190l: If you ever need any suggestions just contact me... 8)

As someone planning a trip, I would suggest:-

1 - best part of town to stay in from the point of view of experiencing Seattle as a tourist (and not just for gameday);

2 - must sees/dos when visiting, including any trips around the city

3 - how to have the best gameday experience - where to eat or drink beforehand, how to get to the C-Link, where to hang out afterwards

4 - probably most important, how to secure tickets. Anybody coming from a fair distance will probably have to book flights months in advance to get a decent price, so you want to be sure of securing a ticket.

Hansville and the Point No Point lighthouse.
Take the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston, and drive north. When you run out of land, you're real close.

I don't want to fly false colors here,,this was Marks idea. He just asked if I would organize it. I'm realizing how big a job that will be.

But I'm finding out there are many of you very conversant in different areas that could write a killer part of that area. That will be the next chapter.

As a first time visitor in 2011 for the Ravens Game, this is a great idea! as i'm hoping to come back next year, and would certainly like some more suggestions for things to do other than the football.
From my own experience, I stayed at the Hyatt Place, and either walked downtown or got the monorail. It's next to the Space Needle and the near enough for downtown walking, and a good clean hotel. The Five point bar was just over the road, good food and beer  and the Temple on gameday
Only thinking about it now, there was plenty more I would like to have taken in, Whale watching, Mount Rainier, different areas so perhaps i'll hire a car next time!

As a guy who is from Tacoma and had fun in Seattle for over 20 years. Great thread. I go back every Christmas so I may be asking for this list when I come back as a refresher.

I know this is difficult to keep up but maybe a calendar list of incomming activities. Like comedians in town, summer solstice in Freemont, concerts, the hydro plane thing, that kind of stuff? I plan for events like this...

Some already touched on it already, but I think a link to the Washington State Ferry system is key. Visiting the PNW should include getting out on the water and taking in some of the breathtaking views and wildlife of the San Juan Islands. Be sure to include lodgings on Orcas and San Juan/Friday Harbor. A seafood restaurant schematic is important as well.

Downtown Seattle has it's unique opportunities and all, but somebody travelling-in from an inland location has got to get the toes into that 44 degree sea water at some point or they have not got the whole experience.

Freeways, car exhaust, and traffic can be found anywhere, sea lions sunning themselves on an outcropping of kelp-laden rocks cannot be.

I'm already a .net immortal.

Therefore, a day in Seattle should include a side trip to Kalispell in order to hug me.

Being from Bainbridge Island..

I would say, a nice Bed and breakfast in WInslow

Short 30 minute ferry ride to within a 15 to 20 min walk to the stadium.

Beni's: don't need a car.
Close to all downtown spots.

get pumped up on the ferry going..
have a nice post game on the ferry coming back.

No traffic to deal with.
Bainbridge is pleasant enough.

Man, Ive posted we should have a sticky like this every year for how many years.. haha.

My brief suggestion for lay out:

1) Suggestions on tickets (both buying and location.. point out the obvious, that there "isnt a bad seat in the house", but also say which areas are behind which benches, where the Hawks Nest is, etc)

2) Suggestions on hotels from viewpoint of location and price.

3) Game day routines and suggestions/reviews. Again, the obvious: Temple, but also the less obvious: parking, post game places to go or avoid

4) While in town suggestions, divided into 2 sections -- Down Town Seattle (Pike Place Market, Waterfront, the aquarium, Westlake Center, Space Needle, Science Museum, Music museum that I forget the proper name of, Underground Tour, UW district and Husky game info, etc) and Day Trips (Northwest Trek -- underrated and under recommended in my opinion.., Ocean Shores, Snoqualmie Falls, etc etc)

5) For the Kids.. if youre coming with kids it really changes the whole thing..

Fantastic idea that myself and 5 others will want to read about!

We are watching the Leafs in VCR saturday Nov 2 and trekking down to watch the Nov. 3 hawks game.
We booked the best western loyal inn (any good lol?). So aside from the regular outlets, what is the best way to get tickets?

Also some ball guys in the group so like to hear what a tour of Safeco is like?

Thx all...

Something else... At Carillon Point in Kirkland they have a couple Pirate Ships that sail on Lake Washington... Really a great adventure for anyone that is visiting Seattle... Sails from the Beach Cafe... Plus, of course there's plenty of Hotels on the Eastside of the Lake....I'm really an Eastside of the lake person so I promote the Eastside, because there's so much to see and do getting out of downtown Seattle...That's where a lot of beauty is in Western Washington.....

I think TEMPLE is the official meet up spot for .net fans in the seattle area on day of game. Maybe get them to ok it and make them the official .NET meet up zone? Possibly make a banner on the top of this place that says "Meet at temple billiards on Sundays your official .net party spot" :))

Epic Seats is a little over priced but they have an office near the stadium to pick up your tickets. Or you could always get tickets from scalpers outside of the stadium. I usually go through Stubhub or Craigslist.

Safeco Tour is pretty good. You get to go in the press box, visitor's clubhouse and dugout, and out on to the dirt by home plate. The tour guides are always pretty knowledgeable.

Thank you all for your words and information. I will take this down after today but keep all your comments.

Many of you will be hearing from me in the future as we get this put together.

Again, thank you.
