Uh oh.....

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
Percy Harvin will get a second opinion on his ailing hip early next week. Should know more about his availability then.

I don't like that it's his hip...that's something new.

Ailing hip? That's the first I have heard about it. I'll assume that this came up in the physical before the trade was executed and just see what happens from there.

What is new #Seahawks WR Percy Harvin (hip) battling? I'm told it's a slight tear in the labrum. Second opinion will be important.

Greatttt..

Carroll has been notoriously cautious at the outset of camp.. I remember Baldwin, Rice being limited last year early on.. Red Bryant too.. better to ensure their health is top notch as the season approaches.. I thought he participated in the mini-camps (edit.. saw the message below)

fresher legs is the positive I see from this.. I am sure RW will have a homework package for him since he is not on the field :)

He was battling with it back in June during the OTAs.

Seahawks | Percy Harvin in good shape
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 18:46:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks WR Percy Harvin (hip) sat out organized team activities (OTAs) this week due to what head coach Pete Carroll said was "a little bit of a hip flexor" issue that has been bothering the receiver. However, Carroll doesn't seem concerned, and said Harvin's fitness was good. "We're trying to get him back next week, so we rested him a couple days. He's done tons of work and looks great. We have no question what he can do and where he's fitting and he understands the offense," Carroll said.

It seems the new concern is labrum.

Looked around a bit (the best thing with the internet is that we can all now be doctor's :))

This looked like another good link

http://www.wakehealth.edu/Orthopaedic-S ... rs-FAQ.htm

Don't like the 3-4 months for regular people to heal but do like the non-invasive options......

Well, the labrum tear would be a season-ender.

It depends on the severity of the tear... My doctor said that I prolly had my shoulder tear for 3-4 years before I displayed any symptoms.. looking back I did I have issues but they were minor and the Army didn't give me 20M guaranteed to suit up either.. The Hawks are going to be cautious with their investment because they can afford to be on 25Jul..

Well, if true, the fact that the team thinks he can practice and play through it is a minor good thing.

I typically refrain from getting on players for not playing through pain, but gee, I would like it if Harvin got out there and earned that big contract he just got from our team.

If he has surgery.. per this link:
http://www.wakehealth.edu/Orthopaedic-S ... rs-FAQ.htm

How long is the recovery time?
Recovery time is approximately three to four months, and it ultimately is determined by how much work needs to be done and how much healing needs to occur before the patient can be allowed to return to activities.

It's not the time to panic yet. Florio is a muckraker and if there is ANY chance that the injury requires surgery of course he is going to put it in a headline to generate more web traffic. Just because there is a chance that Harvin needs surgery, it doesn't mean there is a GOOD chance he needs surgery.

No sense getting worried about this until we know more.

I think there is plenty of sense to worry, but not panic.

Yeah, the fact that the Seahawks staff thinks he can play and practice through it sounds as good as it could sound.

Now, if they about-face on that in the next week...

I agree, and i'm not panicking either way.. Yes it would be a big loss, but we had a solid recieving crew last year without him.. I also look at it as more motivation for Baldwin to get back to his rookie year production form..

Weren't they trying the same thing about Michael Bennett?

I'm more concerned by the fact Harvin decided to get this looked at in late July than anything else. Doubt he tore the labrum recently.

It may have been torn before he signed the contract. It will be interesting to see if he gives the season a go or not.

Yes I know, but just because surgery is POSSIBLE doesn't necessarily mean it's LIKELY, and the tone of the post on PFT makes it sound like surgery is all but inevitable.

As I said in another thread, remember that this is the same site that spun a theory about Sidney Rice getting cut to save cap space out of thin air. PFT is a good place to get news but it's a rumor site at heart. The juicier the rumor, the more traffic they get.

This could all turn out to be much ado about nothing. If Harvin does need surgery, then that will royally suck, but there is nothing to suggest that he is likely to need surgery, only that it COULD happen.

I was concerned about health issues with Harvin, but I thought he would at least make it to practice before he got injured.

My dads getting surgery on his labrum in his hip. The doc said the recovery frame was 4-5 months. This could be serious for Harvin.

I think we really need to wait and listen to Pete coming up here in a few minutes during his conference. Get a little better picture besides all of these heavily over-dramatized rumors that spread faster then herpes.

WOW.

That sucks. Reading the "It MIGHT require surgery" stuff tho...as another poster stated, MIGHT doesn't mean WILL. Could just be a precaution.

It is the classic .net approach to anything ever for this team.

A mouse farts in the wrong direction on this team and everyone here loses their mind.

yeah, I don't think this is a big deal. We'll wait to hear something official, and i'm betting it's not as severe as a lot of people on here think.
