They got incredible value here, and he's perfect for the scheme. Great pick.

I always enjoy reading the posts on the Scout FB forums following a pick; here's the link to the 'Bama thread following Williams.

General consensus (and I know, it's a bit of homerism) is that this was an absolute STEAL.

Again some of the people who booed the Hill pick said why not take Williams? Well we got him anyways, 2 rounds later :)

This is not a 1 tech, IMO. His lower body is long legged and is smaller in proportion to his upper body. Bama played him at 1 tech last season and it was hard on his legs. This is a Red Bryant type of player that will need to play 3 and 5. Not 1 tech. Awesome value in the 5th. He's in the backfield a lot.

Some reactions on the pick:

Jesse Williams was the best player on our board. Immovable object at DT. Great value, good scheme fit for the #Seahawks

Seahawks trade up to grab DL Jesse Williams. Our favorite player left on the board. #NFLDraft

Alabama DT Jesse Williams (No. 39) and Louisiana Tech WR Quinton Patton (No. 58) are our only Top 80 prospects left: http://cbsprt.co/2013NFLDraft .

Pete Carroll says Jesse Williams will play 3-technique primarily for Seahawks. Interesting. (Can play NT too, says Pete)

Over at NFL.com, looking at their draft grades, they gave Williams an 85.5...which was the highest number since pick 81 (3rd round, Damontre Moore, DE, Giants, 87.9).

What did this guy do? Kill a nun? And if he did, are only NFL front offices aware of it?

BTW: Thanks again Detroit! Please come again!

We got a pass-rushing DT in Hill and a big, burly run-stuffer in Williams. I'm loving this draft.

Personally, I think he can play any position on the defensive line, outside of Leo. He ran a 4.9 40 at 325 lbs and has the mobility and athleticism to play the role Alan Branch had last year. At worse, he's a backup to Mebane and Red. At best, he starts at the 3-tech as a 2-down run-stuffer and competes/replaces Red or Mebane a year or three down the road. Not bad for a 5th rd pick!

Edit: there are concerns about Williams' knee which caused him to fall. He's an early round prospect if healthy.
