  • I would be ecstatic to bring Winfield aboard but he would have to want championship over money for such a deal to happen. I've read that he is asking for somewhere around 7 mil (per year!) and I don't see JS offering that. Unless he's squandered his years of NFL money, he should be equally happy with 5 mil and a ring, IMO.

It's no wonder he is scheduled to visit the Skins. Only Snyder (and Jerry Jones) throw money around as recklessly as that.

Highly doubt he's offered $5 mil. IMO he will sign with us for $3 million.

Considering he made his mark by offering great run support...offering half of his asking price would, IMO, be fair compensation. Our opposition won't have the luxury of running the ball after halftime, so the math works. Let's get it done JS!

  • Clayton believes Seattle may take the stance of waiting until after the draft to make a decision on bringing someone like Winfield in to compete for the nickelback position assuming the dynamic duo isn't sold on anyone in the draft or on their current roster.

  • This is exciting news. Between Winfield and Thurmond, we can keep both guys fresh at that nickel CB spot, and we can even move Thurmond around and let him sub for Browner or be a fourth corner. The secondary on this team is incredibly deep at the corner position. Just shore up the safety position, and this is the best secondary in football by a fairly good margin, in my opinion.

Getting questions on Antoine Winfield and the Seahawks. I know there is mutual interest. But source says "just talking" not imminent.

Per the Flynn deal, "imminent" means a week. Can't imagine how long "not imminent" means.

  • My bad, good call on that. Don't trust Ed "Dallas Cowboy" Werder nearly as much but still, usually "close to a deal"means the leqgue is reviewing the contract to make sure it is a legal contract by NFL rules.

  • I think it's funny how people say "arguably the best secondary" or "one of the best". Name one other defensive backfield that is even close to being a complete as ours. Its not even close. Two Probowl safeties, with Earl being All-Pro, 1 probowl CB (really should be 2 we all know Sherman deserved to be there) and Sherman was all-pro the best CB in all the NFL. If we sign Winfield then 5 probowlers in the secondary.

That isn't just obviously the best secondary in the NFL right now, That's probably the best in the history of game. How can you argue there is a better one currently in the game? You can't.

  • The Vikings will have to give him a little more but in the end, I could see him finishing his career there. It may be a chance to go to the big dance but otherwise it is probably only a year deal, two max and not a lot of money is my guess.

Seattle basically did this with Trufant last year. They were successful in getting him back on a team-friendly short-term deal and ending up needing him to play because of youth or injuries not allowing others to step up.

With his size I don't ever really see Winfield playing outside in our scheme but I think he will man the slot with Lane and Thurmond able to sub for Browner or Sherman if need-be.
