Good luck, Ben, wherever you land!

Did he play pretty well vs Saints in playoffs??

I know I've called for his cut this season, but it's not due to any dislike or disdain. I truly liked him his whole time here. He just wasn't getting the playing time. When they started playing Martin at times last year, I saw the writing on the wall. I hope he catches on somewhere else and gets into the lineup more. Good guy. I wish him well.

    Sure he was.

He was out due to injury. But Tate's eruption onto the scene made him expendable. There was no guarantee that Golden would take that next step. If he failed to develop, Obomanu would have been our starting #2.

  • $500K signing bonus so very small cap hit ($125K) -- $2.3 million dollar salary - no brainer.

He made about $5 million over the past three years and more the four years before so he made a career and good money out of being a 7th rounder. Good for him, good for the team good luck elsewhere hope you get re-signed and make some more

  • Obo's real value to the team was as a stud special teams gunner. He will be missed in that role. He was decent depth on the WR side, but his special teams play was great!

Unfortuantely, given where we are placing $$$ at these days he was making a bit too much based on his value as a special teams player. Such is the business.

    Good Luck Obo!

Well money/spots issue. The guy was getting no playing time yet getting $2.5 million. One of those two things had to give. Since he wasn't going to get the playing time, the money was way to much.

  • He's been around the bubble for the last few years but he was definitely one of the guys that had the right attitude and helped raise the play of everyone else. He was going to make more than 2 million, as a 4th/5th/6th receiver, that is probably too much and had to be part of freeing up more money for other moves, either re-signing our current talent or signing our draft picks.

Got to say Jeremy Lane made him expendable there too. He may not be able to hit guys very hard (remember when he bounced off the returner?) but damn that guy is fast

  • Lane is fast, but definately doesn't finish quite like Obo did. Obo has some solid hits on return guys on his resume. Lane.....well, he's still learning what to do when he gets down there and probably best described as "getting in the return guys way".

Definately a money thing, here. $2mm more in cap space just may be what is needed to bring Branch back.

This. Obo was a special teams stalwart, and he provided depth for us at ALL WR spots. He wasn't the greatest talent we had at WR, but he was the most versatile.

Very happy to see a fellow Auburn alum parlay a 7th round draft position into a 7 year career with my Hawks. Best of luck to him in his next location (unless it's against us).

  • A good guy who worked hard and got the absolute most out of the talent he was born with, but there's just no way we can pay someone who at best would be our fifth WR nearly $2.5 million. I got to meet his family at Indy a few years back; good people.

  • In 2010, Ben Obomanu's longest reception was for 87 yards.
    Who was the opponent?

    Who was the opponent?

T / F The result of the play was not a touchdown.

He was also 87th on the depth chart.

    Bizarre.

Well played Tech, I wonder how many people don't get it.

Loved the next post (my bad forgot who) and now he's 86'd.

Back to back comedy gold right there.

Best wish's for a guy that has been all over our depth chart including even being our #1 for a stint in 08 when out entire WR core went down to injury including Seneca Wallace who was going to fill in at WR due to need but pulled a hammy coming out of the tunnel. God what a putrid year of football that was.

He definitely got in at the right time though. The biggest reason for him lasting 7 years is directly related to turmoil in the WR corps, compliments of one Mr Tim Ruskell.

I believe that leaves Hill as the last man standing from the Ruskell era though I suspect that experiment won't last much longer either.

Edit: I know Trufant is still here but he wasn't drafted by TR. I'm referencing TR draft picks of which Hill and Obo, I believe were the last two.

  • Does this mean I can't pick him as my breakout player again this year?

    Chiefs?

And false, it was a TD.

I think that was the same game Earl had his first regular season TD...on a blocked punt return.

  • Watch him end up a 49er. It actually males sense. He could beat out some of the depth on that roster including Jenkins, would possibly bring trade secrets and is a great special teams guy. It wouldn't surprise me at all.
