Is that he'll have input during the draft process. Seattle has 10 draft picks. They will probably draft at least 2 defensive linemen, maybe even 3 or 4. Quinn's built a sterling reputation for identifying and developing defensive linemen. Given Seattle's needs on DL, this is the best hire they could have made, IMO.

And who knows, maybe Jaye Howard will finally see the field as a 3rd down specialist? He may suck against the run, but he was one of our best pass rushers in the preseason. I never agreed with the decision to have him sit on the sidelines all year. Jaye Howard broke out during his last season at Florida, his first with then Florida DC Dan Quinn.

Edit: In Quinn's radio interview he was asked what a "Dan Quinn defense" might look like. In his answer, Quinn described his defense as "aggressive" and "attacking" and "going after the ball."

I love the Jaye Howard connection. I read that he was a big reason why we drafted Howard. I had/have big hopes for Howard so I like that angle.

What do you expect him to say? "Soft zone and passive all day"? :p

That said, I'm intrigued by the hire. I wonder what he'll think of our current lineup.

Did he also say "...And I loathe the prevent, soft zone coverage as well. That crap's for pussies."?

I sure hope so.

He could have stirred the pot and said - focus on stopping the offense especially the last 30 seconds of a game....

He could say they were going to focus on preventing points and eliminating mistakes. There are a lot of things he could say that sound positive, and are not "aggressive," "attacking," or "going after the ball."

There is nothing aggressive about a 4 man rush with zone coverage. Attacking implies blitzing. Going after the ball could be a reference to zone coverage, but if Seattle blitzes more it would at least help compensate. Sure, it's coach speak, but reading between the lines I found those comments encouraging. When Pete talks about defense he always talks about not giving up the big play, and his cliches are more conservative. Just as Seahawk Sailor points out.

Quinn's influence would also likely effect some of Seattle's decisions on the D-line personnel wise (Red Bryant, Irvin's future, etc).

I love this hire. Huge upgrade potential, IMO. Could be the best hire since Tom Cable. I think it speaks VOLUMES that Seattle hired Quinn instantly after Bradley left. No brainstorming for candidates. No interviews. No process. They knew EXACTLY who they wanted and they went out and got him without blinking.

Pete probably had Quinn holding on line 2 ever since the first call came in for Bradley...

Yeah that was exactly what I was thinking. I would love someone to ask Quinn how he would have played that possession, or the Miami one, or the Chicago one....

Well we played more downhill when Quinn was here as far as our line goes, how that effects our LB's and DB's will be interesting next season since when Quinn was here last we had no where near the speed and talent behind those guys.
