I've received a lot of e-mail since Football Outsiders took over the FOXSports.com power rankings this year. Many of the e-mails I get read a little something like this:

"Team X blows out a losing team and you move them up your power rankings. But when Team Y pulls off a clutch victory against a winning team, you don't move them up. A close win against a good team is a lot more important."

There's only one problem with this statement. It isn't true.

Interesting.........

This is a very interesting article. Some great stuff in there, and probably an indication of who we can expect to see do well in the playoffs.

And it's interesting in light of Seattle's record this year. As I count it so far, we've had 2 STOMPS (NYJ, ARI), 1 DOMINATION (DAL), 3 GUTS (GB, NE, CHI), 1 SKATE (CAR), and 1 win that counts for none of those (MIN). Stomping Buffalo and St. Louis will be key indicators of a team ready to truly contend in the post-season.

I'd say we dominated Minnessota. They should've only had 17 points.....that last FG there was a blatant delay of game that wasn't called, which would've put them out of FG range. Damn replacement refs ! Wait.......

So what does the article say about teams that get beat up by bad teams ?

If you count the Vikings as a "domination", with the points coming late in a sure loss, things look a lot better for us. However, that game still wouldn't be a "domination" (according to his "rules" is 14+ points against a good team) even taking the late garbage points.

2 STOMPS (NYJ, ARI), 2 DOMINATIONS (DAL, MIN), 3 GUTS (GB, NE, CHI), 1 SKATE (CAR). Verdict so far: 4-4. The good thing - also falling within Pete & John's 4-year plan - is that if we continue to improve, look for us to win more of those games we lost this last year, and while some of them will turn into guts, the "skates" (and maybe even some of the losses) will turn into "stomps".

Teams that get beat up by bad teams generally aren't in the discussion regarding playoffs. I can tell you that with or without the article.
