4th Quarter … 4th Quarter … 4th Quarter …
gal-movies-titans-jpg.jpg

To me, it’s one of the great scenes from “Remember the Titans”. Denzel Washington – lying down next to one of his star defensive players during drills … and every time the whistle blows, he’s telling him over and over again … “4th Quarter … 4th Quarter … 4th Quarter …”

Washington (playing Titans head coach Herman Boone) is telling his players that the 4th Quarter is gut check time. When you’re dead dog tired … and feel like you’ve already won … and want more than anything to let off the gas -- resist the urge and power through it, because it’s in the 4th Quarter (more times than not) when the game is either won … or lost.

And that’s sooooooooo applicable to the 2012 Seattle Seahawks that it’s sickening ...

Week 1 – 16-20 LOSS to Arizona Cardinals …

In Week 1, the Seahawks totally dominate the Cardinals for 3 Quarters and knock QB John Skelton out of the game. Enter Kevin Kolb in the 4th Quarter … who does a Joe Montana impersonation, racking up 66 yards passing and leading the Cards to the game winning TD. The Seahawks, meanwhile, try to come back … falling short as Russell Wilson leads the team clear down to the Arizona 4 yard line … ultimately turning it over on downs from there. Game over.

4th Quarter … 4th Quarter … 4th Quarter …

Week 4 – 13-19 LOSS to St. Louis Rams …

In Week 4, St. Louis racks up 81 yards of total offense in the 4th Quarter and scores a crucial FG … while the Seahawks, behind by 6 points, play lethargically in managing just 67 yards and failing to score. Needing a TD to take the lead, Russell Wilson throws an interception, as Anthony McCoy falls down on the play.

4th Quarter … 4th Quarter … 4th Quarter …

Week 7 – 6-13 LOSS to San Francisco 49ers …

In Week 7, San Francisco manages 90 yards of total offense in the 4th Quarter and scores a crucial FG … while the Seahawks eek out just 21 yards of total offense. In the last drive, the offensive line allows Wilson to be sacked, Russell Okung is flagged for a false start, and Paul McQuistan commits a chop block.

4th Quarter … 4th Quarter … 4th Quarter …

Week 8 – 24-28 LOSS to Detroit Lions …

In Week 8, the Seahawks enter the 4th Quarter leading the Lions 17-14. They allow the Lions to rack up 96 yards of total offense and 2 TD. The defense can’t get the Lions offense off the field, as Stafford and the offense converts on 3rd down 6 times in the 4th Quarter.

4th Quarter … 4th Quarter … 4th Quarter …

Week 11 – 21-24 LOSS to Miami Dolphins …

Once again in Week 11, the Seahawks enter the 4th Quarter leading the Dolphins 14-7. The Hawks defense allows Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins to rack up an incredible 228 yards of total offense … to convert on 3rd down 3 times … and to score 17 points to lose a game that Seattle had in the bag.

4th Quarter … 4th Quarter … 4th Quarter!!!! …

Whether it’s Pete Carroll, Gus Bradley, Tom Cable, or Seahawk fans at large … that should be the overwhelming cry for this team. Absolutely, positively, these guys have got to consistently put together 4 solid quarters of football because in every single one of these losses, that’s been the common theme.

That is a sign of a young team. Tightening up under pressure and thinking rather than reacting. Not saying that is the sole reason, just pointing that out

To be fair, besides the Cowboys win and the Jets win, every game this year for the Seahawks have come down to the 4th quarter.

vs. GB: Seahawks up 7-6 entering the 4th, get the win 14-12
at Carolina: Seahawks up 13-10 entering the 4th, get the win 16-12
vs NE: Seahawks down 20-10 entering the 4th, get the win 24-23
vs Minn: Seahawks up 27-20 entering the 4th, get the win 30-20

I'd say in games decided in the 4th quarter, the Seahawks are 4-5, not too shabby for a team starting an undersized 3rd round rookie at QB. We're really only a few plays away from a 10-1 record overall (really only the 49er game was a dire situation that—even though we had the ball at the end—we would have still needed a small miracle to win, seeing as how off our WRs were *5 drops* and how tough the 9ers D has been)

Pete Carroll needs to bring in Denzel Washington as a consultant? is that what you're saying?
