Probably the big game to keep an eye on outside of our match-up with the Vikings will take place in Lambeau Field. A Packers victory over the Cardinals would send Arizona to its 5th consecutive loss and drop their conference mark to an ugly 2-4 overall. If the Cardinals somehow pull off the upset against Green Bay (hard to envision given the way both teams are playing right now but you never know) and the Seahawks take care of business at home.. you're suddenly looking at a 4-way tie at 5-4.

Despite the road woes, the Seahawks are actually sitting pretty for the time being - but obviously the biggest thing they have to do is win on Sunday.

Right now, we are still in good position to control our own destiny. Arizona, Minnesota and Green Bay are ahead of us....Vikings and Packers by a game each and the Cardinals because of the head to head tie breaker. We can still beat Arizona to leap frog them, and if we beat Minnesota, we will hold the tiebreaker on them. We also hold the head to head tie breaker against the packers should we end up tied with them. This all makes this game against the Vikings just THAT much more important.

Yep. Beating Minnesota would be great too because in the event of a 3-way tie with the Packers, Seahawks and Vikings.. the Seahawks would win by virtue of a head-to-head sweep.

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.

If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.

Two Clubs

Head-to-head, if applicable.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in conference games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss.


Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)

Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.

When the first Wild-Card team has been identified, the procedure is repeated to name the second Wild-Card, i.e., eliminate all but the highest-ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. In situations where three or more teams from the same division are involved in the procedure, the original seeding of the teams remains the same for subsequent applications of the tie breaker if the top-ranked team in that division qualifies for a Wild-Card berth.

Arziona might as well be removed from the equation. They go to 4-5 this week with their 5th straight loss in Green Bay, then 4-6 after they play @ Atlanta in a few weeks.

After that they play the Rams at home, they have an early 10 am game in New York, they have to play us at C Link (payback!), they host the Lions and Bears back-to-back, and then they play @ SF.

The Cardinals could very well end up 6-10/7-9.

yeah, gotta root for the Cards on this one. We beat Minnie we leapfrog over GB too. AZ won't hang with us and in any event, we'll beat them at home and that will be that. So a Card win over GB basically vaults us into the 5th wildcard.
