If you could steal 5 players from the other NFC West teams

The Essential Online Seahawks Fan Forum Community. There simply is NO substitute. RATING: PG-13
  • And put them on our roster, who would you choose?

    My five:

    Larry Fitzgerald: No explanation needed.
Patrick Willis: I love Wagner, but Willis is the best in the business.
Justin Smith: Pure beast. Imagine the 4 man rotation of Big Red, Irvin, Clemons and Smith. Plus he could play DT in passing situations.
Vernon Davis: I like Miller, but Davis is dynamic.
Whoever the best tackle is: to replace Giacommini

  • The only person I would think about taking from other teams, because replacing the player we have would hurt the dynamic of this defense would be Aldon Smith.. Irvin, Clemons and Smith would be devastating..

Which is why I am loving the idea of drafting another pass rusher this offseason.

  • Alex Smith, Sam Bradford, Patrick Willis, Larry Fitzgerald, and Kevin Kolb. Having stolen these starters, I then leave them on the bench so that the other teams are crippled.

I'd consider Calais Campbell or Darnell Docket, not sure how they'd fit overall in the D

And then agreed, whoever the best tackle is. I don't actually know. Is it Iupati or that other guy the 9ers drafted the same year as Iupati?

I'd also consider Michael Crabtree, but it's not a slam dunk.

No, Breno would keep us out of the Super Bowl. We'd have to steal a RT too.

The annoying thing is that I proposed this during the offseason when Smith was actually available...for not much more than Flynn. But we cancelled a visit with Smith when we signed Flynn.

We could have Alex Smith as our backup right now and the 9ers would have been screwed.

If we're stealing other players to simply hurt the other team rather than bolster our own, then:

    Alex Smith
    Kevin Kolb
    John Skelton
    Larry Fitzgerald
    Frank Gore

    and screw the Rams.

I think a big part of that is the 49ers system and the way they use him. I don't think he would be nearly as successful if he went to a different team.

  • Some of these lists just go to show how good the D-lines are in our division. Justin Smith, Dockett, Long, Aldon Smith, Campbell... Even with our awesome front four you'd make room for any of those guys.

Still, needs play a huge part and so my list is:

    1. Vernon Davis
    2. Fitzgerald
    3. Staley
    4. Amendola (healthy, of course)
    5. Dockett

  • People just automatically assume that Patrick Willis is the best linebacker in the NFL. This is actually not true. In fact, P-Willie isnt even the best LB on his OWN TEAM.

That honor belongs to Navorro Bowman.

P.S. I'm not trying to diminish Willis in any way. He is still a great player. But i have to give credit where credit is due.

  • I'm surprised how little Patrick Peterson is being mentioned. Our CBs are great, but Peterson is special.

    1. Larry Fitzgerald
    2. Darnell Dockett
    3. Justin Smith
    4. Patrick Peterson
    5. Patrick Willis

Our defense is already borderline elite, and this list had four more defenders, but that's where all the strength is in this division. Plus, Fitzgerald alone would put this offense over the top. Flynn would look amazing throwing to him.

2nd best WR I've ever seen behind Jerry Rice (my opinion) and I've been watching football since 1964 (Sorry Steve). May someday be tied for best.

  • Calais Campbell over Red Bryant
    Patrick Willis (slide Wagner over)
    Larry Fitzgerald (Fitz, Rice, Tate)
    Joe Staley over Breno Giacomini
    Greg Zuerlein over Steven Hauschka

Kinda sucks how there isn't a franchise QB in the division.

Campbell is like Red Bryant with a very good, very consistent pass rush ability. He'd instantly add 6-8 sacks to this defense without giving up much against the run.

Willis is the best 4-3 linebacker in the NFL and Seattle could use another good one, so this is a no brainer.

Fitzgerald is killing me this year in fantasy, but this is obviously a no-brainer. He'd probably fair about as well as Rice in our current offense though.

Joe Staley might be the best tackle in the division. I like Breno, but our offense can't handle his mistakes right now. This is a big enough upgrade to justify making the list.

I'm surprised that I'm the first to name Zuerlein. Hauschka is good, but Zuerlein is unreal and his range changes field position strategy tremendously. Are you in opponent territory? Then you should expect to score if you have Zuerlein on your team.

Rat wrote:I'm surprised how little Patrick Peterson is being mentioned. Our CBs are great, but Peterson is special.

I was a HUGE fan of Peterson in the draft: I said he was the top player in 2011 over Cam Newton. But we have two top 10 CBs already (per PFF), and I doubt Peterson would thrive as much in our press system. We don't need him as a KR either. I'm not sure he's an upgrade for us, and if he is, it's by very little. That probably explains the scarcity, even if Peterson has a bright future.

i'd rather have quinn than aldon smith. aldon smith has 4.5 sacks this season, but his consistency of pressuring qb's has gone down since being named starter. he pressured at a much higher rate last season.
