  • If he was on my team, I'd probably call him Deke, or Deke eM, but Decaf will probably stick. He already partnered with Volcanica Coffee to release Decaf Metcalf, as well as Fullcaf Metcalf.

Generally speaking, athlete nicknames come from fellow players and coaches, not fans.

Johnson was initially dubbed Megatron by his teammate Roy Williams.

Oh, I see, the sentence read funny as if you didn't think he was on the Hawks, or you rooted for a different team.

Also, with social media being so pervasive, fans giving players nicknames (and them sticking) is become much more common place.

  • During the NFL Combine, Steve Smith already dubbed him, “Batman.”

DK can also be an acronym for “Dark Knight.”

Maybe not politically correct but Batman is “The Dark Knight.”

    Lol.

“Batman” is a perfect nickname for DK.

  • If your name is abbreviated DK, you are going to be DK.

I'm not sure I buy any of the megatron characteristics. Johnson really had it all, size, speed, hands, fluid hips. DK has speed, size and smarts, but he isn't as smooth an athlete as Johnson. I don't think DK will ever get to those heights.

I still prefer to think of DK as a Terrell Owens type that will dominate with size and speed but always be a bit suspect with hands. But as long as he doesn't develop that Diva attitude I'm fine with an Owens type career since that's one of the best WR careers in football.

And Terrell went by TO. So simple DK works for me.

  • Fans have a tendency to try and force nicknames on players. Better to let them develop, and the ones that come out of the locker room tend to be the best. For the most part, fan nicks tend to be derivative and not very original.
