This is why I'm concerned about PC not playing to win, at 2:30 the reporter asks about sending Jano out for a kick. PC responds with "not at that time, no". Obviously he was thinking about it since they had achieved FG range. The reporter then says "anytime you scored or take the lead, they came right back." The reporter is establishing that we couldn't stop the Rams, so then why would you give it back to them?

Then at 4:31 the reporter tries another tactic by asking "what do you tell your team after a game like that where you stay step for step with a team"? but PC cuts him off saying basically what he should have done and "it was right there", pauses for a few second and ends the conversation by blaming the refs.

In RW's press conference he says "We need to take advantage of every opportunity."

There's no doubt it was a long shot and risky but it was also an opportunity to ignite this team, we could have won that game.

If he were being honest, he would blame his kicker and punter, but he’s not going to do that. Janikowski isn’t kicking the ball well enough to give much thought to a 60+ yard FG in that situation. And we thought our punter would punt the ball much better than he did, trap them inside the five or ten yard line to force three cautious running plays, and then get the ball back into reasonable FG range for the win.

Hindsight is always 20-20, Pete played it exactly how he should have.
Attempting a 60+ yarder would have been stupid at that time, as there was still a lot of time left on the clock for the Rams to just march it downfield for another score, (like they had been doing all day) and Pete knew it.

That and given the fact that neither kicker was able to kick through the endzone on kickoffs and that's only 75 yards with no rush and can be kicked low because nobody can block it. Since a field goal needs to be kicked higher and there is a rush, it would have been nearly an impossible task. Humidity and wind and other mitigating factors change a kickers distance from week to week, and sometimes from one end of the field to the other. If we didn't have enough faith for deep kickoffs, I would have been sorely disappointed at trying a 60+ yarder in those conditions.

OP are you talking about attempting the 60+ yarder or the fact that they were clearly trying to run the clock down and kick a FG instead of being aggressive on their last possession?
